That would require me going upstairs again to check. Stairs are very dangerous for me, I've taken some bone breaking falls, so measuring will have to wait until I go back up there again. I avoid stairs as much as possible, only was upstairs maybe a half dozen times last year.

"PC bullet would gain diameter, thus requiring more crimp?" That's my guess.
The solid soft lead bullet is undoubtably the best and most satisfactory expanding bullet that has ever been designed. It invariably mushrooms perfectly, and never breaks up. With the metal base that is essential for velocities of 2000 f.s. and upwards to protect the naked base, these metal-based soft lead bullets are splendid.

Ok, I totally understand, we would not want you to take a tumble, pardon the pun! Mine measures right at 0.470" at the very top of the case. If I do recall correctly, I hade to adjust (slightly more crimp) the taper crimp die when I switched to PC.

I felt good enough this morning I made the trip upstairs. I make it out as .470 at the mouth of the case, so we are at the same conclusion.

If I am correct, the BD45 is a clone of the RCBS 45 235 CM with a crimping grove designed for the Cow Boy Action group. The clone removed the crimping grove as most of us were shooting them in .45ACP.
I could never get the RCBS mold to shoot accurately in my 45 Colt and I tried it in my 45 ACP and it is an excellent shooter in my 1911's and my MechTech .45ACP.
I do have both molds but I don't use the RCBS mold anymore.

The BD45 is a completely different design from that bullet.

Ric, beg to differ. The attached photo, RCBS 230 cm is on the bottom and the BD is on the top. Both PCed boolits are the BD.

The pictures I found online looked like the nose design varied quite a bit from the RCBS 230 cm.

This is what I am looking at. To me the nose ogive looks completely different. I have a BD in my hand looking at it and the picture side by side. Is your mold from the original run?

Yes mine is from the original run. I was using the RCBS but it is only a 2 cavity, and I was shooting a lot of them.
Forgot to mention my S&W 625 loves that boolit.

By the way, that picture doesn’t match what that mold casts. The crimp Grove is in the middle of the front driving band.

Tagging this for reference. I've experienced a similar problem in a Glock 21, but haven't been able to get back to the range. I suspect my problem was a charge not completely cycling the slide. Perhaps there's something else to blame, however.

Edit to add : I am using a different bullet design than the OP. Cycling problem just caught my attention.

Okay, I had to make a trip upstairs to get a bullet that hasn't been loaded to look at. Looking at your photo with a magnifier, I can tell you the BD45 doesn't have that front band or crimp groove. I don't know what bullet you have, but it is not the BD45. Way out of specs from the blueprint showed on the other thread I posted. Mine looks like that one.

The 6 cavity Group Buy mold I have is a Clone of the RCBS 230 CM without the crimp grove.Grove. Both of the boolits in my picture are from my mold that is marked 45 BD. It was meant to show that both molds throw the same size boolits. I do not have any cast from the RCBS mold and it is too darn cold in my casting shed to cast any.

I have no idea why it is marked BD45. It is the RCBS 230 CM. I wish I could post a picture here of the original BD45, I'm sure you would see the difference immediately.

I do believe your BD 45 and my BD 45 are different. Could be that I marked mine wrong and it is from a different Group By.

I apologize for the confusion here and I will just go back to just reading posts and not posting anything. That way I stay out of trouble with individuals like you that I completely Trust and Respect.

I have things I have mis-stamped over the years, that should baffle future users and historians! It happens to everyone.

OK, after searching the closed Group Buy's I found what I was looking for.
Your BD 45 is not the same as mine because mine is a BD45CM.
2 completely different molds. There is actually a 3rd BD mold BD45CMBB same as mine but with a bevel base.
I need to add CM to my mold so I don't screw it up again.
    Sorry about all the confusion.
