    Lube making

Has anybody tried making lube in a crock-pot? You know, one of the 50 cent specials that you can find at pretty much any garage sale. You could just store the lube in the crock-pot and then plug it in to warm things up when you needed to refill, and ladle it out into your lube-sizer. It should be just the right temperature to melt things quickly, but do it without a lot of mess and smoke.

    Has anybody tried this?

    Sounds like a great idea.

Myself I don't make up that much lube at one setting. I make mine up in a very small corming ware dish. When I need to add lube to the lubesizer I sit in on a hot plate then dip it in. Same principle, but GOOD Idea Glen!

Real slow process. It takes the crock pot time to heat up.
I use a large coffee can on the lowest heat the stove can provide. When it cools, the lid fits right on.

Tried it and got tired of waiting, took forever to heat up to a liquid. Coffee can on single burner electric works for me.

    Sounds like a neat idea.

Regarding how to heat up already made lube, I break it off the cake, put in an old mug, nuke it in the microwave, and pour it in the reservoir.

I use a second hand store 50 cent pot on a hot plate that I switch on and off to control the heat. I like the pint sized pan as it is just the right size and when cool it fits in a gallon ziplock bag handle and all to keep it clean until the next fill. No need to empty the pan just reheat and pour. I use the cut off top of a 2 liter pop bottle as a funnel and just toss it after one use and it fits the Star opening perfectly. Isn't it funny how lazy people find a way to stay that way!!

    Glen,

I think you'd be well pleased with a "system " like this. It meets ALL of my molten lube needs.

Dang! Best idea in years. I can't begin to figure the cost of heating lube over the last decade or two as compared to this idea.

Glen, keep me in mind if you find an extra one on the shelf, just in case I don't find one around here. I seldom go these stores because I never think about it when out gallivanting. ... felix

Some crock pots have a "HIGH" setting which puts out a lot more heat than on the "low" setting. FWIW thought a deep fryer will put out all the heat you would typically need to melt lube.
