    cwtebay,

Sir, thank you for the brief reply. To wit: What state are you in and Why do 17 deer need killing? What happens to the venison.? How many Tags do you have? Something needs further inquiry here. Please give us the rest of the story.
    Be well.

Apologies - I can get 1 either sex tag and 5 (or maybe 6) additional antlerless tags. The deer population has exploded and the herd definitely needs thinning! Venison never gets wasted around here - this is being taken by a guy that exchanges helicopter time looking at wayward cattle for deer meat.

Already put one in the levergun thread. But this Remington single-shot is about the same vintage.

Winchester 1894 in 30WCF with a manufacturing date of 1895. My father shot his first deer with it, I shot my first deer with it, and my son shot his first deer with it.

So far, the oldest was a Krag- but I have a 1900 made 91 Mauser waiting for its turn.

Hunted hogs with an original 1816 Springfield musket. That 69 caliber ball really packs a wallop!

Killed my first 4 deer with a '98 Mauser in 7.92x57 back in the late 1960's. The mil-spec Mauser had "1917 Danzig" on the receiver ring.

Loaded with IMR 3031 powder and 175gr Sierra out of the green/black cardboard box.

An early original flint Leonard Reedy Leigh Valley 57 cal long rifle dated around 1785-1792 or maybe even earlier. Used the rifle for many years during the Pennsylvania Late Season flintlock. This ole rifle put many a Bambi in the freezer till a collector came along and offered me a pile of cash for it. The rifle bought a new Ford Diesel pick up truck! Have a contemporary 54 cal flint rifle I use now.

An 1898 Krag, made in 1899. Oldest gun I have. Never anything other than cast down the barrel since I've owned it.

While I have older rifles I've hunted with, the oldest I've taken a black tail deer with is a 1940's vintage type 99 Arisaka. At the time it was the only center fire rifle I had...

Groundhog, about 50yds. offhand shot with a Windsor P-1853 Enfield .577 type II riflemusket, (band springs) lock date 1856. Wound cavity, about the same as a .30/06 Speer 125gr. TNT bullet at 3,300fps, 55gr. FFFg Goex under a Rapine .577 480 International style Minnie, (similar to Lyman 575213OS). Exit hole was about fist size.

I took a WT buck with a 1890s BSA Martini Cadet. Only thing is I altered it a bit to be a 357 Super Mag. I have shot others with m-96s dated in the 1890s. But I do have or have had older rifles that I never shot any game animal with. The oldest rifle I have, has a stamped Tower Flint Lock in it that is dated 1746. I have shot it, but, but with a star rifled barrel in 54 cal it is a minute of a 5gal bucket type gun at 100.
Now I did shoot a crow with an original never issued 1865 Springfield with a 505 mini at 75 yards with 75 grains of triple F, I had the Navy arms Zuave repro out shooting and a dumb crow landed down range. A 505 Mini will distribute a crow.

I decided that breaking the lens in my phone camera was a good plan - so waiting on pictures from the hunting party.
Ended up with the 1866 scoring one, the rolling block in 43 Spanish accounted for one, the 45-90 as well. My oldest son at home sat in a stand and connected with the Smith and Wesson #3 in 44 American. Neighbour's sons used a couple of 1895's of mine to some effect - including the straight pull '95.
At the end of the day, the boys wanted to shoot the black powder guns together - I am always incredulous how our forefathers saw ANYTHING across a battlefield! 3 rifles and 1 revolver smoked it up badly enough to not see anything past 10 yards for a solid 3-4 minutes.
