RCBS swaging dies

Not sure if this is allowed or not. I have complete sets of the old RCBS swaging dies in .257 and .358 with punches and what not. This would be the interrupted thread. Also contains numerous punches and what not.

Would anyone have any idea what I should ask for them?

Getting older and thinking of passing on my "when I get 'round tuit" projects that I know I'll never get to.

The Rock Chuck Bullet Swage dies are important artifacts to those who are interested in the history of shooting and the pursuit of accuracy, but they are so uncommon and so slow to use (as well as being rendered obsolete by better, more modern designs) that it can’t realistically be said that there is any actual “market” for them.

What somebody who wants an interesting curio will pay for his interest is essentially the buyer’s call. I got my first two RCBSs for $15 each off a remainders table maybe 30 years ago at a gun store. They were in nice homemade wood boxes and obviously nobody knew what they were. My third set was $80 (IIRC) from the estate of a world-class reloading tool collector, whose colleagues had helped the widow set prices they thought were realistic and helped her sell the stuff off. That last happened maybe 20 years ago and is as close to an authoritative appraisal as I figure I’ll ever get.

You might ask the savants on the ARTCA site, but I think Ken Neeld and I are the only ones there who have sets. I don’t know what he paid for his. Or you could set up an auction at one of the sale sites (or the forum here) and see what happens.

I still haven’t used mine. Got a RCBS 2A press to use them on, and am nominally ready to go, but other priorities keep getting in the way.

Thank you Ramrod. I know I'm not going to buy that yacht on them, was just curious on the value. I got to looking them over. The 358 set has six dies, the 258 four. All with the correct punches with a couple dozen or more extras. Some of the point forming dies can be used on either end creating different bullet nose profiles. I find it interesting that most of the notes on the 358 set reference the 35 Whelen. At the time the dies were made it would have been a wildcat. I would like to have be able to talk to the original owner.

In addition I have what I think are twelve "2-D" miscellaneous swaging dies. The only clue I have about being 2-D dies is the original owner had a hand written note stating it was jacket reducing die from 2-D. Others have a note stating they are for gas check seating. Even have a die to reduce 22 jackets to fit inside 25 caliber jackets. Have you ever heard of 2-D dies? I haven't.

Thinking maybe I'll hang on to them for a bit longer. Also have a Sportflite 6MM swaging die set. When I get bored with those perhaps I'll pick up the RCBS/2-D dies and see what I can do.

Is it possible it's 4d, there is still a C-H4d company still in existence, they provide an extensive line of dies for obscure, obsolete and wildcat cartridges.

No, I also have numerous CH/4D two die swaging sets. The 2-D dies have straight punches like the RCBS sets. Not even sure if 2-D is the maker, all I have to go on is a handwritten scrap of paper.
