    What the heck is it?

Never seen one. My guess is decapper or proper pocket swager, but I have no clue.

    Neck sizer?

I one truly wanted to know, they could send a picture to RCBS and find out.

MY Guess is as follows: It does look to me to be gauge specific shot shell rim sizer and de-caper.

metricmonkeywrench got it right. It's an RCBS "shotshell saver"...straightens out the crimp, resizes the base, and decaps in a single stroke. Looks like these were originally made by Lachmiller and picked up by RCBS when Lachmiller closed down.

I not only resizes the shotgun hull, it deprimes it, sizes the brass base, and also swages the primer pocket too. Those were very handy tools and I don't know why they were not more popular than they were in the day. Terrific price on that one. james

Never seen the RCBS version. I do have the Lachmiller version stuck away in a box somewhere.

I have sometimes wondered if I were the only person who ever bought one of those. I got mine because of Ithaca 37's apparently having undersized magazine tubes. And since Ithaca 37's are the only real pump shotgun any reasonable shooter would use, you got to do what you got to do to make it work. I used to carry my Ithaca's for miles all over out farm and the neighboring farms chasing blackbird flocks. I don't know how many hundreds of times I've shoved a shell into the magazine and had it plunge in and freeze - refusing to budge which effectively turns the gun into a single shot until you take the barrel off and use a stack of shells to drive the stuck shell backward until it unstuck. I bought one of these RCBS shot shell sizers because it sizes the actual rim, which is the portion of the shell causing the problem. The die body eventually broke on mine in the root of the thread that aligns with the top of the upper press casting. I dug the press out of the spiderwebs under my bench just now for this photo. Not sure where the die is now but sure I have it in a box somewhere in the pile. The spring that pushed the shell out of the die after sizing was quite strong and that broke the die off. I don't know how common that failure was as again, I have never met anybody before who had even heard of this tool.

I would buy that one just to get the die if they allowed Shipping!
