On another Marlin, with an older-style Skinner locknut that was taller than the current version:

I also replace the front blade with a brass blade from Skinner, then file the blade /way down/ & drift to regulate.

The fact that this works even with 'Low' Weaver rings, is the real 'win' here.

In theory, the Skinner #8-40 stem (without its associated locknut) can be used with an unmodified Weaver rail; I have tried that solution as well, but the install ends up being very cramped & difficult to deal with, especially if you want to use the threaded aperture that goes into the Skinner stem.
I put together a scout rifle on a Marlin once. I used the rim of the 30-30 case to tighten the scope rings to the base. That way if I needed to remove it I would always have the tool with me(that is assuming I didn’t forget the ammo). I took it on an off that way dozens of times to see if it would repeat. It always put the first round about an inch to the right after reinstalling the scope. After the first one all the rest would be in a tiny group right in the center of the bull.

That Marlin looks great. Now take it out into the woods and bring home some venison.
