    Rain But It Worked

OK I didn't get the 10 point buck I was working on

But even though it was raining slightly
My lady wanted to give it a try , as the rut was winding down
I told her 100% we must hunt out of ground blinds only so we would be under cover from the rain

So We dressed up in rain gear and we drove down the lane behind My dads house on ATV's
She wanted to hunt the ground blind between the corn field and a thick area of CPR land
So I figured I would hunt in style in a old chicken coup between some CRP land and the overgrown creek bottom

I stopped the ATV 200 yards from the chicken coup , walked to it and got in
I opened a window in all 4 directions to have the best odds of getting a shot
I then took off the rain gear and got ready
I then took a seat in the recliner so I could relax for the hour or so till shooting time

She parked her ATV next to the field tile pump station and walked a little over 100 yards to a 8'x8' blind I had built years ago
I am sure she also opened windows and relaxed after getting ready

About 9:30 AM I had a large 8 point walking down a path just in the CPR ground
I had cut a number of shooting lanes from each of the windows
So at about 10 yards I pulled the trigger on my Horton Hunter and watched a red spot show up just behind the shoulder
I figured I should look before the mist that was coming down washed away the blood
But as soon as I looked I could see the buck was down 20 or so yards away at the edge of the CPR ground

Not 20 min later my lady texted me asking how soon I could help here find her buck that she had just shot
    She has a TenPoint crossbow

Well I called her back that as soon as I had finished field dressing my buck
I would head over to help here
When I called her , she said she was about to look where the buck had entered the CPR ground

I pulled my buck onto a trailer I was towing with the ATV and headed here way
As I got close I saw her field dressing her buck at the edge of the CPR ground about 40 yards from the blind

Both of us were using Rage 3 Blade heads I had bought 20or so years ago

I swear our 2 bucks were twins
    Both racks were the same
Her buck was 160 Lb field dressed and mine was MAYBE 2 pound heavier

2 decent bucks with a lot of fat

Right now they are skinned and hanging in a friends walk in cooler
I figure as she has Tuesday off
We will process them then and maybe get most of the meat we are going to use for burger and sausage ground

Good shooting! I am anxious for our Nebraska muzzleloader season in December. Looks like the population is up and we can take a couple? My summer salami has been gone for most of a year. Haven't presure canned any for 3 years, my daughter's will want some for Christmas! I really enjoy all of the hunting stories here! hc18flyer

The grandson nailed a nice 10 pointer in light rain last Saturday. Wouldn't respond to the grunt so he gave him the snort wheez. That brought him right in.
