    Scope bases on custom VZ24?

    Hello everyone,
I recently purchased a very nice VZ24 custom rifle. It has scope bases installed which appeared to be Talley bases. I ordered a set of Talley rings and with them all the way tight I still have about .050" slop, they won't tighten up. I can send pics by email or text if someone thinks they would recognize the bases I have and could give me some direction on where and what brand of rings to purchase.
Thanks for any help and direction,
    Rick

Nice looking rifle. I really like VZ-24s--very well made. As for the mounting problem, having been a gunsmith in a past life for over 30 years, I can testify that fitting scope mounts to rifles, especially custom rifles, can be challenging and an entire science itself. First, there is often a problem when mixing different makers' products-- as seems to be the case here. I understand that you have some wiggles, and wonder if they're side-to-side or up and down. If your screws are the correct size for the holes, then the rules of mechanics say that everything they are screwed into should tighten down. Are the mating surfaces compatible or shaped a bit differently? Example: Perfectly flat mating surfaces should fit together well, but if one or both is slightly curved where they join then you would likely get side-to-side slop as they don't sit flat. You might make up the difference in the fit with a thin sandwich of epoxy between the pieces, but by far the better solution is to use all the proper parts from the same manufacturer, such as Weaver rings on Weaver mounts--relatively inexpensive and probably save you money in the long run.

KoO made a similar base back in the day. Other outfits did too. I have no idea which, if any, are compatible

I drilled right through my dancing lion to put a set of Leupolds on. A little radius height issue but a bit of lapping fixed that.

Go to the topic "Joni Lynn's Rifle" in the stickies, I cover how to fix this.

The solid soft lead bullet is undoubtably the best and most satisfactory expanding bullet that has ever been designed. It invariably mushrooms perfectly, and never breaks up. With the metal base that is essential for velocities of 2000 f.s. and upwards to protect the naked base, these metal-based soft lead bullets are splendid.

Forget everything you know about loading jacketed bullets. This is a whole new ball game!

The OP scope bases look to be the old Kimber of Oregon bases.
Yes they are not as wide as the Talley bases

Why not just replace the bases with something usable with available rings?
