    Cast bullets in K31 Swiss??

Hello, I am new to shooting the Swiss K31's. Have three and shot them with the factory PPU manufactured with 173 FMJ. I cast bullets for 25 years, and quit casting about 15 years ago. Now I am getting the casting fever again. Looking for help me with sharing suggestions of favorite bullet to use for the 7.5x55 Swiss. What mold manufacturer, style, weight, and sizing ? And the list goes on..... I would be glad to consider any suggestions or experiences you may have. Thank you for taking the time to read this request! John

Here is a thread to get you started. You can search for 7.5x55 and get many more.

The Lyman 311413 is a good bullet for a K31. The RCBS 30 cal Silhouette is also great. Watch the nose diameter and make sure the bullet chambers easily.

+1 Made for the application. No seating deep, no finagling, it just works.

Is that mold still being made? I've been watching for quite a while and its always out of stock. They've ignored all 3 of my emails the last year.

I have had some luck with the lee 312-155 sized down and seated deep enough. They worked well enough for my uses.

This bullet from Accurate works very well: https://accuratemolds.com/bullet_det...bullet=31-185S

I used to shoot our local High Power matches with one of my K-31's, it's very accurate.

I started with a homely 145 gr. plain base FP and 6.7 gr. of Bullseye-

I later switched to the bullet from the NOE mold, but I no longer see that mold on their site.

The Lyman 311672 is supposed to be a good one for the K-31 too.

I've used the Lee 200gr with good results.

As an update, I called NOE and was told their production has been shut down for 7 months. The fellow I spoke to said they may be running again around the first of the year.

lee c312-155-2r is the best bullet that i have found that works the best for me. I can keep it in the 6 inch bull at 100 yards, on a rifle rest mind you!
Buy the 6 gang mold for casting, it's so much better than the 2 gang mold. Slug the bore, size 1 or 2 over groove diameter.

    my specifications: slug- .307
    sized- .309
    OAL- 2.770
    Touch the lands- 2.795
    power 2400 ------- 16 gr.
rear sights set to 400 meters.
    my chronograph read fps- 1614,1549,1543,

sized at .308 had some blow back from case leakage, failed to seal case neck fully.

NOE is up and running again .
If you want a mould , join the NOE Forum ... you can get in on a production run or , do as I did and Start a production run ... 10 or 12 sign on to the run and the moulds are made and shipped ...
Beats sitting around waiting for a mould to appear in their inventory ...

The NOE improved 315 or the Saeco 315 cast bullets do a good job in my Swiss K11. I imagine they will do fine in your K31 as well.

The PPU brass seems too be sold out at most places I have looked, and was selling at around .80cents ea. Raven Rocks Precision has Norma brass on sale now for
$ 1 ea, free shipping with a $150 order. I don't know where else too find once fired, maybe try Duck Creek Reloading?

You can form brass from .284 Winchester. If you can find it!

I'll ask Pierre St. Marie if he has a source of brass. We talk about every day.

    From the expert;

    Pierre St. Marie
Good morning Ric. I'm afraid that the term "reasonable" no longer enters into the conversation as pertains to 7.5 x 55 brass. Yes, 284 does work, but please note that it works perfectly 100% of the time in the G11 series rifles, But when it comes to the Kar.31, You may get one or two failures to extract once in a while. The difference is the thickness of the rim And its interaction with the two extractors on these rifles being just a bit different.

The solid soft lead bullet is undoubtably the best and most satisfactory expanding bullet that has ever been designed. It invariably mushrooms perfectly, and never breaks up. With the metal base that is essential for velocities of 2000 f.s. and upwards to protect the naked base, these metal-based soft lead bullets are splendid.

Interesting. Not really a statistical sample but my experience has been exactly the opposite: no extraction issues using brass formed from 284 in my K31 while my well-worn 96/11 has a definite preference for PPU 7.5x55.

Same projectile, same OAL, same size .309, same sight setting just a different powder with similar velocity my K31 loves this lee mould

So the question arises, where can I find once fired range brass for the 284 Win. I have no brass for 7.5mm Swiss. Its my understanding that all that is needed to convert 284 Win brass to 7.5mm Swiss , is to open up the neck enough to receive .308 cal bullets or boolits?
