Hunting with a 40 super, 235 grain Accurate Mold

Hi all, dang its good to finally get back in the group…logging in had been a pain….

I have a Tisas 1911 with a BarSto 6”, 3 ported barrel in 40 Super. I have also purchased an Accurate brass 3 hole, 230 grain mold. I am pretty excited in hopefully being able to use this combo for hunting, here in Montana.

Here is my question to the folks here in Cast Boolits family….

I have a couple of juggs of Longshot that I used for a 460 Rowland I used to have and felt this should work with 40 Super also. As one can guess, loading data can be slim.

So I was wondering if any the members here have a 40 Super and if there is a better powder to use?

Any thoughs good or bad is appreciated…Thank you.

    Hello, and welcome back
The 40 Super sounds like it would be a hoot to load for and shoot.
I do not have a 40 Super, but do have Quickload and would be happy to plug some numbers in if you want.
I looked at Accurate and didn't see a 230gn mold to get the length from.
So I'll need the bullet length, weight(235gn?) and loaded length.
Quickload has it listed with a max pressure of 38kpsi

    Rough guess below:
    235gn bullet, .735" long?
    Loaded length 1.250"?
    6" barrel.
    Longshot, 8.7gns, 1132fps @ 38.5kpsi, 71% load density.
This is not load data, just a very rough guess at a max load.
The 71% load density looks like we could use more of a slower powder to get more velocity?

    2400: 11.6gns, 1123fps @ 30.4kpsi 101% load density.
    BlueDot: 10.9gns, 1191fps @ 37.8kpsi, 110% load density.
    A#9: 12.2gns, 1191fps @ 38.4kpsi, 95% load density.

With the actual bullet length and loaded length, we can probably get much closer to reality.

Post some pics of your pistol if you get time
