The other night I was watching a You Tube video by a 2A guy
He was talking China has stopped exporting or is planning on stopping exporting Nitrocellulose to the USA

He said that the powder makers in the USA get about 60% of their Nitrocellulose from China
Nitrocellulose is a BIG ingredient in gun powder
So if they do or are stopping
It will make gun powder prices go up a BUNCH IMO
Also he was saying ammo supplies will disappear and powder prices will go up a HUGE Amount

The best lies have a kernel of truth. Doing a fair bit of research turns up no credible sources for a claim that China is planning or even considering banning export of Nitrocellulose to the U.S. My research does indicate that Chinese exports of nitrocellulose to the U.S. (and all markets) may see a significant price increase and global supplies of nitrocellulose will be strained. China had a nitrocellulose factory fire and China has increased is exports of nitrocellulose to Russia. Turkey has also increased its exports of nitrocellulose to Russia. The demand for nitrocellulose and cotton fiber used to make nitrocellulose has increased not only because of the current conflicts but also because nitrocellulose is used in very many products that are in constant demand, cosmetics, paints, inks, and other finishes as well as some pharmacological products.

If the story was true and China was going to stop exporting nitrocellulose or cotton fiber to the U.S. many industries would be disrupted not just the ammo markets.

I can’t believe that the government allowed the last lead refinery to be shut down. Lead production is a matter of national security!

I don't believe that Winchester owns all the sources needed to make their ammunition. Winchester is owned by Olin and the only smokeless powder plants in the U.S. are in St. Marks, FL, owned by General Dynamics and Radford Arsenal in VA, owned by the Army and run by BAE Systems. Winchester Ball Powders are made in St. Marks. Alliant gets some of its powder from Radford to load ammo for Remington, CCI, Speer and Federal under the umbrella of the Kinetic Group. Hodgden gets its smokeless powders from all over but does not make them. Pyrodex and Tripple Seven I think are made in the U.S.

About a third of the lead used in the U.S. each year is imported. 90% of that is either imported batteries or used to make batteries. Two thirds of the U.S. needs for lead are filled by recycling scrap.

In Northern and NorthWest Montana we have had several Rare Earth Mines and other "Rare Mineral" mines that have shuttered because of the Biden/Harris administration over the last 2 years. A couple are hoping to reopen if Trump comes back to office.

As a Nation we used to have a review of "Critical Materials and Products" from WW-II on. If we did not have sufficient in storage or being produced; then the Government would intercede and pay far above the "International Market Rate" to keep the production going so the USofA was not subject to other countries using Strategic Materials/Products as a lever against the USofA. Unfortunately; since Jimmy Carter the YARVARD MBA's (Yale, Harvard, et.al.) have tamped that down in the effort to have a "Just in Time Economy".

Who would of thought that supporting the country of ukraine who has never been our ally to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars every year against the 2nd largest military in the world, with economic partnerships with over 32 nations, would create supply chain shortages for us reloaders.

Olin doesn’t own the farms, but there are thousands of tons of cotton grown in South Alabama and Georgia, all within 100 miles of St. Marks

Don't worry, they are being offset by the mine opening in Idaho under the current administration. Just ask the snake river farmers that blame the lithium mine for water shut offs. Also see Thacker Pass Lithium Mine in Nevada. Last I heard the flooding from the hurricane in Ashville was caused by the Biden administration so land could be purchased for more lithium mines.
