1980's Military contract 30 Carbine ammo?

Recently stumbled across these in my travels and I'm curious as to why the US was still having 30 carbine made in the late 80's by Winchester. I was under the impression they had started to release m1 carbines and their ammo to be sold off in the 60's. I know they were issued in Vietnam but the war ended in 1975. So what was this ammo's purpose?

Any answers or thoughts are appreciated

    John

I don't know either but I just ordered some more US Army surplus from CMP. When they show up, I doubt they'll be head stamped from the 80's but it'll be good stuff.

Korea and I think Italy had 30 carbines until fairly recently in their arsenal. I bought a couple of them from CMP in the last 8-10 years when CMP had them returned. Decent rifles, I think I paid $400 each for a couple of them. The daughter has laid claim to one of them. Second one went to a buddy's girlfriend.

Just wish I had bought as many as they would have let me cart out of the building, the prices have gotten stupid high the last couple of years.

Korea, Italy and Israel load M1 carbine ammo, so I doubt the WCC80s ammo would have been produced for export to them.

May have been a military contract for an overseas buyer.

I've some 303 British made by Winchester from 1983-84 timeframe, was over run from a large foreign country order from what I was told.

Some of that WCC84 went to Canada for the Rangers.
