I am sorry grey hawk ,
But I am not familiar with that Buchelle flintlock.
I would have to see a picture of it to maybe know if I ever came across one in any of my builds or repairs in the past.
I don’t do it as a regular project, but I have rebuilt several Cheap Locks to make them function better like putting some kind of bushings in the plate to make the tumbler fit better so it isn’t wobbling around so it stays in contact with the sear better and straightens out the hammer swing.

I have seen that kind of lock on a rifle I did some other work on but not the lock.
From what I saw , it seemed like a pretty good lock

If I were younger, I would buy one of the Colonial Rifle kits. Anymore I have trouble keeping up with a .22 rifle!
The smoothbore is whatI’m interested in. I have done a lot of research on my ancestry and found that my 6x Great-Grandfather was in the Massachusetts Militia. His company was 72 men strong, and I found a musket in the Smithsonian from his town. The description was a 45” barrel in 72-caliber.

I sent Kibler a message asking if they would offer the fowler in 12-ga (close enough to 72-cal), and the answer was “maybe.”

I am sorry , but I don’t feel that I am a universal Expert in all the locks that are out there or were built in the past.
I am pretty good at working with what comes across my bench.
I have improved cheaper locks that I ran across.
But I am not as good as my grandfather was that he built his own locks from scratch.

from another forum Buchele was a custom builder passed away in 1977 - built his own locks - (saw pictures of one of those and the gun it came on) writer said the Italians copied his lock after he passed and Dixie used to sell them - mine is probably a copy - it has the number 39 stamped inside the lockplate and also on the underside of the frizzen - forum Guru said the Italian locks were an inferior copy and should steer clear of them? from my perusal of the pictures of the original and my usage of the copy (mine) I would contradict that advice - the one I have is a good lock - at least as good quality as the L & R locks I have had.
The Buchele is an american style lock (the geometry of American locks generally different than English like the Durrs Egg or Manton)
Got this lock from a club member who was (learning the quick way) building guns, he didnt know how to set it up correctly to the trigger assembly, abused the supplier saying it was unfunctional and was given a replacement (supplier was going out of ML parts and this guy took a lot of stuff off his hands cheap), I could see nothing wrong with the lock so forty bucks and it came home with me - used on a CVA Frontier conversion for a while ..................

That's pretty cool. Did you get a picture of the gun from his town?

I just checked Jim Chambers site and they offer a flintlock kit, New England fowler/militia musket in 10-11-12ga. 46'' barrel. Chambers kits require more fitting and work than a Kibler, so I don't know if that's an option or not.

I did get a picture. It is B&W photocopy from research notes of an author on US military flintlocks. It was attributable to my ancestor’s town, because it had “Granville” crudely scratched into the right side of the stock. Thanks for the info on Chamber’s kits. I’ll check them out.
