    Star Model PS
    AMT Hardballer
    S&W model 1917 (Army surplus also )
    Taurus model 455 ( 45 acp - 5 shot)

Through out it all my standard load has been a 200 gr. cast SWC - Lyman 452460
    cast of wheel weight / soft lead 50-50 , sized .452" , Lithi-Bee Lube .
    5.2 grs. Unique @ 750 fps
I'm sure there are better powders but at the time Unique was my do it all powder and it worked well in the 45 acp then and now ... IYCGI ... If You Can Get It !

Those Star PS models are scarce! I don’t believe that I’ve ever seen one.
I’m sure that it can hang with that handgun crowd!

Everyone needs a 1911 in their collection. IMO You simply can't go wrong with one.

Any of ya'll shoot a 45 ACP suppressed? How about suppressed using cast boolits?
they shoot fine through a Rugged Obsidian 45.

I've owned several 45ACP's: a Gold Cup, TAURUS 1911, Glock 21, llama double stack 1911, a Kimber 1911double stack, and a Springfield XD Tactical. I still have the XD, it has 17,000+ rounds all cast, Lee 200 RNFP & Arsenal 230 RNFP.

About 45 years ago I bought a Ballister Molina through an add in Shotgun News for $89. I still use it as my favorite 1911 type. It will shoot any 45acp ammo it is fed, even a 200gr swc loaded backward level with the case mouth. I used that for NRA 50' indoor pistol shoots. It shoots to about 2" at 50yds. Normally I shoot the Lee 230gr TC with 5.2grs of w231 for a bit over 900fps.

HK USP tactical that comes with a threaded barrel. I have one of the very first ones that has fired around 25 thousand rounds over the years and it’s still as accurate as the first day I got it. A good portion of those were lead 200 grain SWCs.

Both were new and owned by competent shooters who both stated they shot all over the paper. Now I’m not an expert by any means but I do my best pistol shooting with 1911s. Both of those Tisas 1911s had surprisingly good triggers. And neither grouped worn a darn. Unless I could shoot it first, I’d take a pass on a $300 Tisas 1911.
That’s the first bad report I’ve heard on the Tisas. At that price point, I felt there would be a lot of bad reports, thinking back on the Chinese 1911 clones, which were around the same price point. I’ve actually heard a lot of good reports on them, especially if looking for a WWII-era clone.

    TXCOONDOG -
The Cimarron is another I had forgotten about. It is a nice WWI-era clone.

If one doesn’t mind the gaudy markings, the Springfield Armory is kinda close to a WWII 1911A1, but with much better sights. The Remington R1 was a very nice, American-made clone of a WWII 1911A1, which I wish I’d bought one of before the company went bankrupt.

Of course, there’s always the CMP if you want an actual US Military 1911A1. They can be hit and miss for as pricey as they are, but all are 100% genuine…

I have Glock 21s and they are super accurate, but the octagonal rifling does not play well with lead. They lead up fast. Powder Coating might help with this, but I have no direct experience, so can’t say that for sure. I have an HK45 which also is accurate and polygonally rifled, so no lead bullets in it either. The nice thing is it can be had with a threaded barrel, if you want to do suppressed. As said above, cast lead and suppressors do not mix well, but again, Powder Coating may fix that. So I guess this whole last paragraph is meant to say: If you don’t already, you may want to get into powder coating.

Idaho4guy started a thread about another Tisas 1911 problem. Maybe these are rare issues. As I said before, the fit, function and finish of the Tisas I have is as good as any Colt, Kimber or other US made non-custom pistol. But being real, one can’t expect consistent superb workmanship out of a steel pistol selling for less than $400.00. Good yes, but accuracy and reliability have a cost and it’s probably wishful thinking to expect too much for $400.00.

A dozen US branded 1911s are now built in, or assembled from castings & parts made in the Philippines. It’s one way to reduce costs. Heck, the STI Spartan was built of Armscor 1911 parts. A good pistol, but not up to STI Standards.
A sub-four hundred dollar 1911 can be a good pistol but there’s a limit to how much ‘good’ $400 will buy.

Knowledge I take to my grave is wasted.

I prefer to use cartridges born before I was.

Success doesn't make me happy, being happy is what allows me to be successful.

Well, knowing my luck, I’ll get a bad one. We shall see as I pick it up tomorrow. I got the Stakeout in 38 Super with extra barrel in 9mm.
