Take how many you shoot a year, multiply that times how many kids you have and how many years you think you hope to live.

    Best answer, in my view.
I am now shooting in a month what I used to shoot in a week, I did break down and buy another sleeve at .08¢ a piece, which will allow me about two more years shooting. I have about 30,000, mostly SP, which I use the most, which will take me out past my 78th birthday.

They have already started on air rifles, my understanding is there a multiple lawsuits before the consumer product safety commission about banning "high power" air rifles because they are potentially lethal. Virtually any good quality hunting or target air rifle fall under that definition.

I believe the EU has limited the velocity of most air rifles to less than what my 60+ year old .22 caliber Benjamin is capable of shooting.

I think New Jersey has pretty much restricted virtually any decent air rifle. They view them as no different than a BAR.

I may be wrong, if I am, hopefully someone will set the record straight.

You guys got me all stirred up again, so I ordered another 5K of the Servicios Aventuras SP primers from NormaUSA. $263.70 total cost. Now that I've got enough SP 45ACP brass to shoot it exclusively I need more of these.

    James,
I am a bit younger but going down the same path. Primers have always been available, but at such high prices that I could not justify plinking with CF over the last 4 years...so got into airguns.

Still shooting CF but much less. I can get 50k SPP (non-USA) for less than $2500 delivered. Just waiting to see if Trump "looses" again and I will buy them.

They way the Democrats are running things, $2500 may not buy much in a few years and if we keep supporting Ukraine, supply will not improve.

The way things are going, $2500 may not buy much of anything, not just firearm related items. Very sad and concerning times.

The airgun issue in NJ is mainly that they are suppressed guns and even thinking about suppressors in NJ is illegal!

I was told by old timers that this was the case. Vernon Speer got into bullet makingfrom spent 22 LR brass because of the lack of commercial products.

Depends on how much you reload. We have had dry spells that last four years or more. I would think about what is your minimal amount you want to be able to reload per year and the “comfortable amount” per year. Then multiply that by 4x or 5x. Obviously that will vary with which cartridges you shoot the most often, and which you want to keep shooting in a pared down state.

I think most guys will be looking at 1k-2k per year for SR and SP. Maybe half that or less for LR and LP. Before the 2008 shortages we would have family shoot fest and go through 1,000 rds or more in one day just having fun at the gravel pit. Now we are more deliberate and shoot less with more purpose. More .22LR for fun shooting and better reactive targets for the center fire.

I agree. It's pretty much an individual decision. I only shoot pistol, and I no longer shoot full power magnums (I'm over my lifetime allotment). I only need SP and LP. Between those two, I shoot about 3:1 SP:LP.. I use 100 rounds a week, or 5200 a year but let's get real. I miss some weeks. For reserve calculations I use 5,000 but reality is closer to 4,000. Let's not split hairs.

So just to use round numbers Let's say 4,000 SP to 1,000 LP which with my 3:1 ratio is off but I can always change the allocation. Plus one of my (2) LP cartridges is .45 ACP. I can always buy some SP brass, it's usually cheap. At 5,000 I'm over estimating anyway so underestimating the ratio doesn't matter as long as I have something to shoot. My inventory never hits right anyway.

How many years? Good question. I always thought three years was enough but that might not work any more. Let's say 5 years. So 20,000 Sp and 5,000 LP. Right now I've got 14,000 and 4,000.

    I need more primers!

    ^^THIS^^
How many years of shooting left & how much. I had about 35K spp when covid hit. I shoot about 8k rds a year so without slowing down, I started to get nervous in 2022. I switched to my 1911 for a year to use up some of the 25k lpp I had. If you intend to shoot, what ever you have may not be enough. Regulations, inflation, it all figures in. If I die sooner than later, my kids will make some $$ off my over supply. I am now 68, still shooting more than 6k a year in just pistol ammo. Bought 12K spp last year & another 5k last month. Still looking for good deals.

I would love to stockpile 1000’s of primers but doing so comes at the expense of my gun budget where factory ammo, spare mags, molds, alloy and firearms are purchased from. I usually have to be content with a few hundred at a time unless I am ramping up for a specific project. That said, hopefully 11/6 shows that there are no pending panic driven shortages in the near future.
