I am trying (whole family agrees I am!) to sort & label 60+ years of boolits. Among several Bazillion other related thangs!

I have two bullets that I have enough of I don't want to just toss in a junk box, but cannot ID them for nothin.

Thay aren't "CAST", but I don't wanna hold that agin em.

Hopefully one or more of the august sages here can help.

The problem is I can find many examples of the one without a cannalure, but all the ones I find HAVE one! Then, the other HAS a cannalure and all I come up with is ones without one! A conspiracy, I tell ya!

Pretty hard to ID these exactly, unless a fellow happened to have an original box of either in their shop. So this is just a guess based on bullets I've handled and loaded with in the past. I'm thinking that the one on the left looks a lot like the older Hornady Spire Point bullets intended for any of many .30 cal. cartridges. The one on the right was likely intended for .30-30 loads as 160 gr. RN was at one time very popular for that cartridge, but gave way to 150 and 170 gr. bullets. They were made by several manufacturers, but again it has that Hornady look to me. All speculation. Good luck with this.....

I believe your left hand bullet is a Hornady BTSP bullet. I think I remember them putting the additional ring above the cannelure so you could tell the difference in them and other weights when loaded. At first I wanted to say your right hand bullet is a Speer bullet intended for 308, 30-06 and such but then realized that bullet weighed 165 grains if my memory is correct.

I agree on the left bullet looking like a Hornady. I have accumulated various special run bullets over the years that have cannelures where the standard version did not so that's always possible. For instance, I have several boxes of 25 caliber Partitions that are cannelure for some odd reason. Probably a production overrun for one of the ammo factories?

Your left bullet is clearly designed for the 30-30 anyway. Lots of them made over the years.

The right bullet reminds me of Hawk bullets. You can order them without a cannelure.

I can't help you id those bullets but if it was me, I could develop a load just fine. I guess I am just reckless.
