    Yet another project: M1870/87 Vetterli-Vitali

Posted some questions in the CB loads page, but here is the rifle itself. 1885 Torino Tipo P conversion. It’s cleaning up nicely. I plan on attaching a Mosin 91/30 rear sight base to the barrel to then use a Mosin rail adaptor and either a modern iron sight, a red dot, or scope. Sacrilege I know, but the rear sight is gone and I don’t have the resources to get a proper one.

Close up of the odd conversion configuration. Note the lack of a reinforcing shroud.

Magazine has holes for the screws that go through the lugs on either side of the stock.

I’m putting a Willams peep on mine. It’s for a M98 but it fits on the back of the receiver with JB Weld. At least it did on my Swiss.
I just got another one and started cleaning it up. I’m afraid the barrel is rusted out. I’m going to fire up my bore scope to see if it is tomorrow. Keep your fingers crossed.

I was finally able to get a formed brass case to chamber without jamming the bolt. It extracted well too! For mine, it likes trimmed 8mmx50R Lebel formed in a .41 Swiss die, and then formed again without the expander as the shoulder then needs to be pushed back some. Now I just need projectiles that are heeled to .415 (with .430 diameter otherwise) or how to compress the base of some .430 projectiles with a die or something...
