I’m glad you found a sweet spot in the ladder testing.

What percent fill was the 14.5 grain charge of 2207?

Can you please post some photos of the fired brass? A picture is worth a thousand words...

    Fired brass
First line down is where the 195 grn ? Bullet seats for my rifle chamber.
There is aprox 100 thou band sticking out the case.
The second line from the top is where 14.7 grns of 2207 fills the starline brass.
Primer is a srp white river primer.
I had a few that needed a 2nd or third go to set them off but that was with a drifferent bullet and load.
They seem you have to really make sure they are seated hard into the pockets.
No signs of excess pressure was noted.
Use this data as mad science.

The ring hopefully that comes out is where the masking tape was put around the case to fill the chamber and help align the brass.
Added aprox 10 thou to diameter.
It seems to have done the trick well.
I could feel a slight more pressure feeding the fired case back in the action on the opposite orientation but 100% better than it was.
The case tapers down to where the bullet seats and sort of evens out to a regular chamber.
Probably put there for extraction purposes, maybe.

Gun shot more accurately than it did with just sloppy brass.

I will see if I can do something with a Lee whack a mole loader.
I don’t know how hard they are but will find out one day.

    Hope it helps.
If you want a full case of case volume with bullet to load ratio I could probably do it.

Everything will change with temps, alloy hardness and diameter and lube and barrel condition and rifling ,plus size.

I don’t need the fill ratio. 2207 is close to H4198 but it too is impossible to find here.

I was mostly curious to the performance of a slower than normal powder in the 357 case. Wondering where or if the incomplete burn cleans up?

Do you have a way to measure velocity?

No way of measuring velocity, but using the drop at different distances can get me close to the b.c. and velocity. WAG 960/1000 FPS
    With earmuffs and plugs in.
I’m not sure but when the bullet sound hitting the target frame is loud as it is either breaking back down the sound barrier or the boom /crack isn’t loud enough to not hear it anymore.
I have heard that phenomenon on a few of my pb loads before.
Maybe it’s transonic or something. As it makes the cardboard and core flute stuffing fly and stand quake.
Above or below it doesn’t seem to occur.
    The bullets are nail soft.
I may need some filler or a wad under it to protect the base.
I’ll have to work up another ladder test I suppose and see if I can get a full snot full of powder in it.
It might fly to 200mtres if I can get it to go fast enough 13-1400 fps and burn clean.
I may need to affix a butt pad on it first though.
Just drank the 357 and straight case koolade.
How heavy and fast or slow can one go with a 1:17" twist single shot?
I just fell into this mould and it’s shooting pretty good as far as I can tell.

Awhhh! went to put a patch through it this morning to see if there was anything left to clean out of the bore and discovered the scope base had come loose.
I’m putting it in far corner of the safe till I have time to waste to completely go through this basket case.
    Cheers.

When building, I put 6-8" if straight tube in front of the action to mount the scope bases on plus the for-end, which is glass bedded directly on the barrel with a paper thin space between the section and wood, with two screws and with escutcheons. The escutcheons from cut down cartridge, bases, drilled. The cartridge base escutcheons when recessed, do two things at once, hold the wood firmly to the barrel and ID the chamber. Just an idea I came up with.

Well I ended up having another go at shooting the beast.
This time I was getting a lot of vertical in the groups.
I think it could be the bipod jumping around.
    It felt like it was.
Even with a full 17 grns of 2207 and the 190 grain bullet left a lot of unburnt powder .
They all ejected easily enough and no pressure signs.
16.7 grns of 2207 and a paper patched 140 was a lot smarter load. But still mummies.
I may try some srm primers next time.
I altered my whacked lee mold to size these cases "just enough" to chamber easily.
I think it will be one of those guns I will have to size the cases every time if I want to shoot it deals.
I have some creosafe and will do a cast with this stuff and see how that comes out.
A few picks of the days shooting.

Anyway think I’ll toss the bipod thing .
Fixed the forearm which should hopefully settle things down next time.
    All good.
I won’t have time to finish this off for a few months and it will take me awhile to do.
I’ll let you’s know how it turns out.
    Cheers
    Bruce
