    Craigslist Ad for Linotype Pigs

There is a local pawn shop that has an ad showing two linotype pig ingots
Ad says they are Wells Fargo Vault Door Weights. But not Silver.
Someone had stamped them with a letter set "Wells Fargo" and ".925"
They think they are worth $150 each.

I was going to stamp mine "Fort Knox" or "Alcatraz Death Chamber" then see if they would buy them for Big Bucks.

I once gave my sister a 1 lb lead ingot as Christmas gift. I had spray painted it gold, and stamped 24KT on it. At first, she thought I had given her a pound of gold.

A buddy was over one time and asked for some of the brass shavings after I'd trimmed about 1,000 7.62 cases.
He gave them to a woman acquaintance neighbor. He told her he'd gotten them from our jewelry shop owner buddy.
He said it was just normal scrap/shavings from making custom Gold jewelry.

She asked if she could cash it in at the Gold buying place near where she worked for a small percentage.
He agreed and let her take the bag of shavings.

Next day--- she was waiting for him when he got home.......

If I had a dollar for every time somebody pointed to my freshly cast lead ingots and said,”Too bad that’s not gold!”, I could buy an ingot (well, maybe an 1/4 oz American Eagle) of the real thing…

Also I saw this a few years back:

Okay, I brought my Santa's Work Shop Vault Door Ingot to the pawn shop. They are still convinced that their Pigs are from Wells Fargo because they had other stuff from Wells Fargo. I told what the ingot really were but they failed to grasp reality.

"So its for vampires?" No silly. Garlic is for vampires. Silver bullets are for werewolves. Nothing kills mummy's. And zombies only exist in L.A., New York, and Detroit.

I personally saw the third-world jeweler's assistants sweeping up the gold shavings from where they worked. They separated the dirt and junk from the gold, and tossed it into the melt. This was in Qatar; the assistant was from somewhere in South Asia (India/Pakistan/Bangladesh, etc.). It was quite unimpressive from an industrial standpoint. They didn't even have workbenches; just squatted on the floor.

Yeah, pawn shops typically buy L-O-W, and sell way high. If I were the OP and I really cared, I'd suggest that they take one of those ingots to the scrap yard and have it analyzed. I think they'll be disappointed, if they do.

Pawn Shop told me that someone had bought one thinking it was silver and returned it. Their ad says that these are not silver.

The 150.00 is only a few bucks higher than Rotometals price based on a 23 lb. pig.

I have bought lead online from people who thought the lead was Linotype, only for it to be Monotype of Foundry type.
Especially the old type cast letters.
The Monotype letters just have a flat foot/base.
Foundry type always has a groove cut in the center of the foot foot on the type cast letters.
I don't pay more than $3 per pound for Linotype, including shipping. And $4 per pound for Mono and Foundry.

If you will not pay more than 3.00 for lino then you won't be getting much of it unless you are extremely lucky! The going price is over 5.00. If you buy a 1,000 lb. pallet you can get it for 3.60 lb.

Stamp them "Space Shuttle Ballast" and put 'Rare" in the description. Watch the money roll in.

I have LOTS of Foundry, Monotype, and Linotype that says different. Otherwise, you are correct.
