Went looking for some the other day, and found an old cardboard can of Hodgdon's H4227 that was made in Scotland. My guess is early 70's?

There were rumors that HP38/231 was going to be phased out several years ago. IIRC, that was debunked by none other than our own Outpost75 writing directly to Hodgdon.

All of the 4227 I have ever used was donated to me by friends. I only used it in 357 mag, which I don't shoot a lot. Once can even produced red dust when opened, but I loaded it and it shot just fine. I don't know if I will ever have another can of it, but it does seem to fill a particular niche for magnum pistol shooters.

I MAY have been responsible for helping to start the "rumor" about 4227 being discontinued. I was on the Hodgdon reloading data website, researching data for its use in some cartridge, when I looked over at the availability column and saw that it said "Discontinued". I think I relayed that finding to someone on thread in which I was participating.

H4227 is discontinued but imr 4227 is not. But imr 4227 may now be h4227 relabeled??? If that makes sense.

I bought 2 cans of it around 4 years ago to use in my .17 and .22K-Hornets. I still haven't shot up the ammo I had on hand so I haven't opened either can. I hope to do more Hornet shooting in the coming year...
