    Green Mountain barrels on sale

This is for all you gun tinkerers here that sometimes install barrels. Green Mountain has 25% off on any and all barrels that are in stock now until the end of the month. That makes the gunsmith barrels very reasonable and way cheaper than trying to buy used take off barrels. I've never used any of their barrels but I read that they are pretty good. So I order a few to play with.

I have a couple on guns and they are good barrels. Currently working with a 38 caliber 1-14 twist 34" long installing it on a rolling block. This one is a #3 tapered octagon contour.

I have no complaints with any of them.

I've had a couple of their muzzle loader barrels that were excellent, but I've never "lay'd eyes" on one of their centerfire ones. I didn't even know they were still in business.

I looked for a barrel as I was starting my Ruger #3 project, but they showed “about of Stock” on any possibilities I considered. I wonder whether this is the last gasp of a failing company or whether they are just clearing out old stock for a new start. I got three barrels from them around 20 years ago and was very impressed with their quality back then.

Not going out of business! They do this once or twice a year to move out some barrels that don't sell as well as others. Certain barrels they build go out as fast as they list them, so if I see something I want (sale or not) I buy it quickly!
I'm on their "notify me" list for a full round heavy .22RF barrel for my #3F Fine Gallery Ballard. A whopping $122, and they can't keep them in stock either. I have 5 rifles with GM barrels and all shoot excellent!

I use enough GM barrels that they made me a dealer which gives me enough discount to cover shipping cost.

Nice to know. Everyone seems enthralled with the 9mm Bunny Gun. I hope you get a few orders.

I fired this 100 yard group this morning with a 2.5x post reticle scope and the sun in my eyes.
I’m very happy with my 44-40 Green Mtn barrel.

I see lots of various barrels out of stock, but they do have one I'm interested in that's available as a tapered octagon in #3.5 or #4 weight .40-82 with 1:14" twist, 35" length for $353 and take 25% off that. $265 barrel.
Would be a great barrel for heavier 400+ weight bullets in say a .40-65 or other longer .40 caliber cases.
I might have to think over this sale and possible purchase before the sale ends, just to put it away.

Well, I went back to their web page and many of the barrels they had shown as “Out of Stock” are now missing altogether. I hope this is so they are successful selling off current stock and get back to making their full run of barrels.

Please don’t take anything I said as a knock on their barrels. My first GM barrel, an early one of their 32-40s, shot great after after a brief break in. Next came a 45-70 which was great from the start. They had changed their final finishing and descaling and it worked out very. well. My last barrel in that group was a 25-20 barrel in their “Small Lever Action” profile. Charlie Dell and I started putting it on an original low wall, but that project got side tracked and remains unfinished and unfired.

All of this said, I now hope we’re seeing a strong come back for Green Mountain and they will get back to providing the great barrels upon which their reputation was built.

One of my favorite things about GM barrels (besides being accurate) is the exterior finish. It takes little time to do final polishing with 320 grit to get them ready to blue. No draw filing at all needed.
The do have a line of barrels listed as "honed", which I guess means they're rough drilled, and then honed to final bore size before being rifled? I've got a couple .40 caliber GM honed barrels and they're beautiful bore when viewed with my endoscope.

Good barrels, but never have what I want in stock, or rarely.
