    Mil-surp "sort of" M6 Scout

    Hi!

    Just picked up a new toy- a Springfield/CZ M6 Scout in .22 Hornet/.410

Except for the 18" barrels (14" on issue version) and the silly trigger guard (which has been removed) it models what rode in Cold War military aircraft under the ejection seats. The trigger definitely takes some getting used to but I'm just over an inch at 25 yards and 2 or so at 50. Certainly not a long range weapon but handy as heck and a lot of fun to play with. Working up some 22H loads with the Barnes 45gr TSX, Speer 45gr SPs, and the Lee Bator 55gr PC GC loaded down to 22LR/22WMR velocities. Gonna have to take it squirrel hunting in the Fall!

Yep. An idea I stole in part. 1/2" CPVC capped on both ends with a coupling in the middle as a spacer. The rim of the .410s won't fit but the body of the shell will. Between the two tubes it will hold 12 - 22Hs and 4 - .410s (but would need to be disassembled to get the last 2 .410s) or 16 - 22Hs and 2 - .410s. There's about 30' of paracord holding them in place.

I also took a Weaver flatbottomed base (62A IIRC), drilled a new hole to match the spacing and mounted a red dot. I'll be 60 next Friday and, while I can use the integral peep sights, I wanted something better and adjustable.

Awesome score, I have been a fan of M6 Scouts since the 80's. I was able to pick up two original 22 LR/.410 versions back not too long after they stopped making them. I am a big .22 Hornet fan but was never able to find one of those. Then SA started having CZ make them again the 90's and I was able to finally get one in .22H/.410. I really enjoy shooting them, I am a .410 fan also so I reload for it and shoot lots of .410. There is now a company called TPS Arms in Mesquite, TX that is making them in some interesting new caliber combos. .22 Mags and .17 HMR over .410 even make an O/U .410 and they are putting screw in chokes on the .410. Then they came out with a .357 Mag over .410 and I just had to have one. They are making them pretty nice with all the metal being well done but they are using some heavier plastic for the rear stock. So far it has been great and the .357 really thumps when you are shooting it out of a 16.5 barrel.

Here is one of the original M6 Scouts with the factory case and literature.

This is one of the original M6 rifles with the CZ produced .22H/.410 below it. When the CZ.s came out they offered all the accessories so I picked them up including the SA branded 4x scope and mount. I like the peep for the .22LR but wanted the scope for the Hornet.
