    Home made Turkey jerky chew!!!

I pulled out the last pack of my turkey about a week ago. It was the side of the breast that got shot up pretty good. I sliced it up before I froze it and made sure all the pellets were out. Soaked it in a little salt water for a day or so before I froze it to soak the blood out of the holes. It turned out awesome, but just a hair dry because I left it in a little too long. I figured I’d give a try at making the old original “jerky snuff” from the 70s. Like Jack links still makes it and calls it jerky chew now. I grabbed a few pieces yesterday that I stored in zip loc bag in the fridge. I cut it up as finally as I could with an Ulu knife. From there I just rolled it between my thumb, pointer, and middle fingers till it broke up even more. I was going to put it in the blender but a few seconds of rolling it between my thumb and fingers did the trick. Turned out good enough I’m gonna cut the rest of the pieces up and make snuff out of them! After googling it, it looks like it’s more dusty looking and finer. I might try and stick a little in a blender and see what it looks like, but I almost like the thicker texture of mine.

I put it in the blender today for about 15/20 seconds and kept pulsating it . It’s as fine as sawdust…and packs!!! That’s one side of the breast after I ate probably a half dozen, or so, big jerky pieces.

How long will it last before going bad?

That’s a good question. I made it out of commercial jerky mix/cure so I would assume it last just as long as regular jerky. I’m taking it to the Fourth of July party today, so I’m sure there probably won’t be any left by sundown. I always keep my jerky in the refrigerator anyways just to be on the safe side. Sometimes I even freeze it when I vacuum seal it down. I pulled it out of half a year later out of the freezer and it’s still fresh as fresh when it thaws out. I use high mountain seasoning jerky mix.

The 10 pack of reusable dollar store containers sure make a good fit for the stuff. They’re all packed up to share at the Fourth of July picnic! I remember getting that stuff when I was a kid and I bet you each container probably has five or six helpings, or more, versus the stuff you get in the store.

I had to get creative this morning for breakfast. I sprinkled a bunch of it into my omelette. I didn’t taste the turkey, but the jerky seasoning sure jazzed up the omelette!

Now you’re speaking my language! I love a hearty breakfast!!!
Sounds much better than using it as a substitute for tobacco.
