Well, I just went and blued it. I didn’t feel like stripping the under rib that I had that was blued, so after I fitted and drilled the insert that replaces the drum, and holds the touchhole liner, and got it tapped for the touchhole liner, polished all the flats, and hung it in the 90° Missouri sun. Once it was so hot I couldn’t touch it with my bare hands, I started applying the cold blue. It got 3 coats that way and I am happy with it. I’ve just got to wait for my rod pipes and cleaning jags to come in and I will finish it.

In talking with the fella who I got this barrel from, he showed me the 12 ga barrel, and I can’t use it. It has a button breech, and I don’t have the time to mess with converting it. I may take the 50 cal barrel that I bought for parts since it has no breech plug, and find a shop that will bore it out to a 20 ga, thread it for screw in chokes, and make a new breech plug for it.

Actually it would be 3, the 50 cal barrel that I took off still will cut bullet holes at 50 yds, it’s just pitted so bad it is a pain to clean. The 50 cal barrel I bought for $50 had the breech plug and rod pipes missing but the sights and under rib were there, and those are hard to find. The barrel is not horrible but if I could make it into a 20 ga with screw in choke tubes, it just might make a fine Turkey gun.

The under rib blanks can be gotten from TOW
I have bought several and rod thimbles. Lots of fixed sights I make on my own
