    Holster Repair

Yesterday my leather hip holster stitching came apart. I plan to re sew it but since the thread is what let go I wanted to know what thread I should be using.
I’ve had to redo my multi tool several times and it’s a bit of work. I’m willing to do it but if I can improve on it that’s a better repair.
    Let me know what works.

KEVLAR kite thread. Wax it before you stitch with it.

I just got my starter double holster set on Ebay for $35. No doubt Chinese. And no doubt it will need repair or mods soon enough.

Bizarre is the company / person selling it had it listed as a "Middle age Renaissance" set up. And everything else on their site was hash pipes and bongs.

Take it to a shoe repair shop, they have all the equipment and threads to do it right.

if the maker is one of the well known quality one, i would contact them, if not any shoemaker would probably repair it for less than it would cost you for a spool of quality thread -

Just make sure you saddle stitch it, two needle stitch, when redoing it.

Yes, saddle stitch it with 2 needles and square knot tie each stitch. That way if one stitch gets broken, the others are still holding, you only loose one stitch. Also, groove a line where the stitches will be protected a little. My way anyway, james

Nylon or artificial sinew will last, and double stitching in a recessed groove is for sure the way to do it right!

Naw, not anal. I was raised with the old saying, if its worth doing, its worth doing right. Why re-stitch once and it will stay with the locking stitches. james

A leather stitching awl will fix the problem and typically will come with either linen or nylon thread. They are available at Tandy, farm supply stores or on-line.
