One of 30,000 rifles manufactured during the Civil War. Unique break-open design. In very good condition with a bright shiny bore. Originally utilizing a rubber cartridge & fired by a percussion cap. Used by 11 Union regiments and several Confederate units this unusual design proved to be a great early breechloader. Included with this carbine are over 100 re-useable polyethylene cartridges with type 316 stainless bases. I made a large quantity of these cartridges and sold them to Dixie Gun Works many years ago. Also I will include a pile of 50 cal cast boolits and a loading block. The polyethylene cartridges are easy to load. A charge of 45 grs of 3F or 2F and a hot lube pan dipped 300 gr boolit is all that is required. Scrub and clean with hot soapy water. Fun shooter, cast your own boolits. A 50 cal round ball can be thumbed into the poly case too. They shoot great. The barrel retains over 80% of the original rust blue finish. The wood has never been sanded or refinished. Original US Government inspectors cartouche is still intack in the stock. Action is tight and clean and locks up well. Gun weighs about 8 lbs; very light recoil. Shoots dead on at 50 yards. (SOLD Pending) $1900
