Best way to learn is to take one apart. But if it's a modern gas filled scope there's no way we as amateurs can refill them.
I've taken old external adjustment target scopes apart and cleaned, or replaced crosshairs before, and made tools to do the inside spanner rings that hold them together. Just lay out parts on a clean white sheet as I removed them so I knew exactly how they went together, and once done it was easy to reassemble.
I've done Lyman Targetspots, Winchester A5, Unertl, Fecker, etc. All pretty much the same except the Feckers with their center adjustment for focus.
I use wooden dowels with a slot cut crossway with a hacksaw, and then a piece of hacksaw blade epoxied into the slot to get the internal rings unscrewed.
