    What happened here? 308 loads

I was trying to get more precision for my long range shots with boolits on my cz 308. It has a TR of 1:12, so I loaded with winchester 760 49 grains behind the 311466 boolits, aluminum GC and PC and lubricated with orange magic.
First shot great, second shot 2 inches below the first and third shot 4 inches below the first. 100 meters away.
I was also testing some loads of 311299 and win 760 which were more accurate.
What do you think I could have done wrong?

PC and lubricated with orange magic. Solvent makes PC sticky.
    Whatever!

Your mileage may vary, but I never had any luck with 760.

I have good results with that boolit in .30-06, checked & lubed with Orange magic using 'the load' of Red Dot.
Rumor has it that Unigue does well too in .308. Do your own research, but I think 10gr. is a favorite for .308.

I'd either PC it or use lube, but not both.

All I have ever used for 308 was 748. 1-3/8" at 100 yds with a 150gr hornady spirepoint

have you fired it since??? after that third shot??? check scope and bases...dropping and continuing to drop will end up with scope falling off rifle...dont ask me how I know this LOL.
had same thing happen sideways but end bell fell out of scope.
just that your problem/issue got worse in same direction is reason I suggest this.

Did you slug the barrel & match boolits to 0.001-0.002” oversize?
If not scope issue, this may be, other than shooter error.

I need full loads to shoot at 500 meters

I'd either PC it or use lube, but not both.
ok, I will try just pc

at the same time I shot other loads that were consistent

Did you get increased leading with each shot?

I make no decisions on cast bullets with only 3 shots. Even if you weight sorted the bullets one or two may have voids in an area that mess up the shots. You have posted good results before so this would seem to be bullet or load. What was the velocity? Maybe too high?

Have you shot the 311466 before with good results? If so, then try shooting that load again and see if results are different. If not then try a different seating depth.

311466 is a tapered bullet. I do not have good luck with that style unless they are seated in the rifling.

I have had good results with 311466. This time they were boolits that I had stored with lubricant. I didn't measure speed, but obviously I should have given the other two much less.
Too bad I didn't take a photo of target.
The long range competition is a few days away, so I'll play it safe with the 31299. Then I'll get back to it with this boolit, let's see if I can find a solution.

    Too fast?

I shoot a swaged 175 grain .308 bullet made from 5/16 copper tubing in 308 Winchester using 48.3 grains of W760 with a velocity of about 2600 Feet Per Second. Your 311646 weighs about 152 Grains if my info is correct.

I need speed to go far, with the 311299 I can go up to 500 meters, I expected that with the TR 1:12 the 311466 would work better to reach 600 meters.
But it seems to me that I have reached my limit in long range with boolits.
It is a personal challenge, since I have a hornady and a saw that can do the job well.
I will keep looking for the recipe

Do you have access to any extruded powders n the burn range of RL19, 4350 or H4831SC?

I found that at higher velocities in the 30-06 the aluminum gas checks did not work well. Copper worked fine at almost 2,600 fps with a 200 grain
boolit. I found the same thing with the 223 Rem at high velocities. I bought the aluminum gas decks so don't know what they are made from.

PC after applying gas check? Maybe a GC came off? Or inconsistency with the PB Al gas checks? Was it jammed well into the rifling? Maybe just doesn't like that bullet. I tried a new mold last month and could not get it accurate at any speed.

Velocity increase with each consecutive shot? Less time in the barrel and lower impact due to the muzzle being lower because of less time for recoil to lift the muzzle.

I’ve had trouble with heavy recoiling lightweight T/C Contender pistol and carbine, changing point of impact drastically with velocity changes.

Could very well be, if his crimp is insufficient.

Are you using a mag primer? Might have ignition inconsistencies.

I have had good luck PC and lubing. Groups shrunk dramatically in my 35 Whelen when it was PC/lube vs only lube or only PC
