If brass weren't so scarce, that Mauser barrel would make a good blackpowder .32 Ideal. Brass can be formed from 5.6x50R if you can find any of that.

While scrolling through Single Shot Rifles and Pistols I came across this thread. I did something similar back in the mid 1970’s. I will try to post pics, when I figure out how.
The rifle is custom made from a Stevens Model 94C, 20 Gauge as follows; the shotgun barrel was cut down to 18.25“. I used .22 cal. barrel from a Winchester Model 190. I lathe turned it to fit the 20 gauge chamber and a section of the shortened barrel at the muzzle, between these two areas the rifle barrel is turned down smaller than the 20 gauge bore. This .22 caliber insert is soft soldered in place and chambered for the .22 K Hornet cartridge. The 20 gauge shotgun extractor has been modified to fit the .22 K Hornet.
Sights: No open sights. Scope, Sears 3X, made for mounting on the left side of a Winchester Model 94, the windage knob is on the left side. The scope has thin cross wires and is mounted in Weaver rings on a custom fitted Weaver base.
I still have this rifle and shoot it. When I can get factory Hornet ammo I shoot it in the K-Hornet which fireforms the cases. I reload for the K-Hornet.

A great way to turn a common shotgun into an uncommon rifle.

All four are built on H&R Toppers.
A Green Mountain 44-40, A Tikka 1-14” .218 Bee, A Tikka 1-10” .256 Win and a Tikka 7-30 Waters. The .218 and .256 have spare .410 barrels.
I’ve posted them up here as I completed them.
My very first firearm was a Topper, so they just feel right to me.

I have converted more than a few shotguns to rifles. Many times I will make a new lug so the shotgun barrel can still be used. Turning long skinny barrels sometimes requires a steady rest to keep the chatter down. Also the shape of the cutting bit is important. I turn lots of barrel and use carbide inserts which allows me to go about 5 times faster, time is money.
