    Shooters World pistol powder ?

I have an opportunity to pick up Clean Shot or Ultimate Pistol powder. I looked at some load data that was really limited. I am loading 158 grain cast in .38 Special and 200 grain SWC cast in .45 ACP. Can I get one powder for both, or will I really need both? Thanks, hc18flyer

Looks like there is sufficient data for both powders in both of the calibers you list. Probably comes down to what your velocity/economy objectives are. Faster powder for lower velocity and economy, slower powder for higher velocity, at a higher cost.

I am fine the a faster powder for lower velocities. At this point simply getting suitable powders and economy are the goal. Likely most will be used in .38 Special, lesser in my brother's 1911A1. Thanks, hc18flyer

I just ordered 4 jugs of D-032 (Same as Clean Shot) with 1 for my shooting buddy and 3 for me.

This powder will do fine for range ammo for most standard handgun applications.

The Lovex data and the Shooters World data can be downloaded from: https://shootersworldpowder.com/reloading-guide/

The two sets of data were developed to different standards and frequently seem to "not match up".

I have done a bunch of Quickload runs and generally the results for max charge seems to run between the two "factory" data sets.

Here is a run for a Lee 158 SWC in 38 Sp.

    Code:
    Cartridge : .38 Special +P (SAAMI)
    Bullet : .358, 158, LEE TL358-158-SWC
    Cartridge O.A.L. L6: 1.444 inch = 36.68 mm
    Barrel Length : 5.7 inch = 144.8 mm
Powder : Shooters World Clean Shot

CAUTION: Figures exceed maximum and minimum recommended loads !

May I ask who you order this powder through? I’ve seen some competition shooters talk about SW powder, and it’s piqued my interest.

    thx,
    Dan

Clean Shot meters great on my Dillon. Never tried the other one.

    I got my D032 from Bartlet (https://www.gibrass.com/gunpowder.html).

When I talked to him, he indicated he was about out. The website now shows sold out.

Over the past couple of years, He has been sold out and then later restocked again. You might want to keep an eye on his web site.

The stuff came in white plastic jugs with the only markings being a Bartlet label like the one he uses on milsurp. This indicates he is buying in bulk and re-packaging.

He indicated he has not be able to buy milsurp from the government for a while (5 years I seem to recall), so buying import powder in bulk and reselling is one of his few options for staying in the powder selling game.

On the other hand, it is normally not that hard to find the SW Clean Shot version of the same stuff. However, all of my regular sources seem to be out for now.

Shooters World powders (Lovex) used to be my "go to" powders because they could do everything that the domestic powders could do, but at a much lower price. Unfortunately, now shooters World cost about twice as much as it used to, and the "domestic" powders aren't domestic anymore. I'll vouch for the quality, SW is good stuff, but the prices on powders today is insane.

I bought a 4-lb can of clean shot about three years ago, and have used it for .38 special, but mostly for 9mm and 45ACP. Given my current rate of consumption I will have it for a good long while. It meters beautifully through my LnL reloading setup.

I have tried many of the Shooters World powders and I have liked them all. They have had a major price jump in the last year or two and now even Vihtavuori powders are cheaper than they are.

Clean shot should work for both. I use 4.0 grains of in for 200 lead SWC in a 45 ACP, nice soft mid range load.

For mouse fart loads, I put 2.0 grains in a 357 Mag or 38 special with a 158 grain lead bullet. Fun to shoot the light loads.
