I have a WW2 Mauser and so use a bit of 8X57 but I've never seen rimmed. What did this go to?

I have a German Drilling that uses this ammo also it is used in o/u Cape guns .Also their are 2 different bore diameters one is .318 and the other is . 323 mine uses the .318
