    Marlin 45/70 Boolit Size ?

Tried a few loads in the 45/70 today.
    Rifle is scoped on 8x
50yds., best group was about 2.5" also had a flyer to about 3.5"
    No leading.
Galliant 300gr. Poly coated, Sized .458
    12, 13, 14gr. Unique.
    14 was the best.
    I'm thinking I need a fatter bullet,
    like .460
    Thoughts?
Anyone here shoot a .459 .460 I could buy a few to try out.

I use .461 diameter pure lead in all my 45/70s; in my marlin, I use a 515/.461 FP; If I do my part; one-hole groups at 100.
Send me a PM and I will look see what I have around here that you can have ??
In my 45/60 I was shooting a 500 gr over 19 grs unique then cut it back to find best accuracy ?? Would need to look up the load data ??

19 grs. of Unique under a 500 gr. boolit seems a bit steep! The Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook lists the 457125 with 14.8 grs. Unique as a max. load for Ruger #1 .45-70 at 33,700CUP.

Ballard I believe but not 100% sure.

ID:	322243hylander, My Marlin #336, Microgroove, prefers CB's @ .459", although, .458" will also work. Additionally, I use no more than 13gr. Unique for target work. Btw, I get wonderful accuracy from the bench when I seat my CB's to 2.55" instead of into the rifling. I'll try to post a photo of 50 yd. results using a LBT ~465gr. plain base CB and WC 820.

That is a 10-shot group to be proud of. Nice shooting.
