    I used the spring clip from a analog thermometer, slightly modified, TC is fastened to it with supplied nut.

    Well I found my new spare. I didn't realize it was a 6" long TC and not 4" like the current one. Made a bracket for it to slip into so tomorrow I'll give it a try. Click image for larger version.

    Cast about 1000 40SW today with the new TC. I lowered the temp to 380c and fluxed the pot a few times with wax and things turned out much better than the last session. Still got some colorations but not as bad.

    Did you check out the old probe to see if perhaps it was starting to show corrosion or other damage? Sounds like you're headed in the right direction on the temps.

    I didn't check the old one yesterday... Was very busy but will check it today. I don't think there was anything wrong with it because the temp was always maintained when I used it. Not to say there may have been false readings just the same.
