Do you think used enough gun....LOL
Good kill.
Don Verna
Lead finely applied does wonders that those who don't use it cannot understand. Granted, the 45/70 is, as Don amusingly refers to above, certainly enough gun with any type of projectile. It is what I've used since beginning my hunting career for the past 37 years, 45 caliber and up.
That is one wide and deep HP for that boolit. No wonder it shed so much weight with the head on impact. Did the job quite well. Do you have photos of the autopsy / wound channel it left? For posterity sake, nonetheless. LOL
Absolutely the HP slowed it down. That is what they do, open up violently to create instant trauma in the boolit path and beyond. Your cast boolit did exactly what it was designed for. When it shed weight after the front half pealed back and broke off the remaining chunk had slowed enough that all the meat, organs and offal were too much to blow through. This shows that the lead wasn't too hard, soft enough for the expansion the boolit was designed for.
Congratulations on the successful kill.
Well done !! That's one good looking bullet.
You’re off to a good start. Congratulations!
