This time of year is a good time to finish what I have been putting off all fall. I have 3 original buffalo rifles all in 40-90 Bottleneck. I had, in the past, tried to get those guns working with black powder and paper patch bullets. You could hit a pickup at 100 yards, just where, you couldn’t be sure.
While I am casting bullets for my 40-50 Sharps Bottleneck and my 50-100-450, I decided to try and use the 40 caliber gas checked bullets for the 40-90 Bottlenecks. I sized them 410 and loaded them up and took them to the range.
After seeing how well they shot, I can’t believe I waited this long to just shoot gas check bullets and 5744 powder.
This picture is 70 yards with the same ammunition fired in 2 different rifles…
