As I was rummaging through my powder supply, looking to use up some old powder for some reduced power, cast 311041/30-30 loads, I came across this old friend in the back of the cabinet. Looking at the price tag, I almost shed a tear! Lol

I have a can of the same powder at the same price! Darn good powder and certainly that price, when compared to todays price, is a real eye-opener.

Loaded my last 700x earlier this week in sporting clays loads. Had started out as 11 pounds in a black steel can I bought with a MEC 650 for $100. Sold the 650 for $150 and have been shooting up the 700X
for the last couple of years. It came with a brick of Alcan primers, a bag of 7-1/2 shot and a bunch of wads and AA hulls.

Need to find another old guy stash like that. Makes shooting affordable.

I have used 700X in shotgun and pistol loads with complete success. Burns clean and gives very good accuracy. james

I still have my 1st can of powder - well the empty can. It was Hercules Red Dot bought in Summer of 1976 for $5.85 along with a bag of #9 shot when I aggravated my Father into buying me a MEC 600 Jr. loader. I was 16 and had no money because I was always working on our farm and didn't get paid for that. I love seeing all those old cans.

Earlier this year I loaded up a large batch of .38 special and 357 mag plinking loads. The 2 cartons of primers used still had the price stickers on them-$13.95. The powder from the 8lb jug still had it's price sticker also-$117.00. Also still using IMR 4350 and IMR4831 in the metal cans to load jacketed in 243, 280 and 30-06. No idea how old these components are, have been stock piling for decades. Hope I live long enough to use up a good portion of it.

$7.50 a thousand….what I paid for primers back when I started loading with a Lyman 310 tool. And take home pay was $300 for two weeks.

It took awhile, but I finally used up all 12 cans of IMR 4198 in the yellow metal cans I got a deal on back in the late 90s.
The retail stickers on them were $2. a pound.

Still using some old IMR 3031 that I bought a couple of cases of when it was $3.75 @ pound.

My last 12 pound metal keg of 700X was $96 shipped!! (1986) I miss those prices, for sure.

I noticed too that it is 8 oz. I had a little 8 oz. can of BE that I bought new with $2.65 sticker. That's $5.30 a pound, over 3 hours work at $1.75 an hour that I made at the time.

When I started to work in furniture 54 years ago minimum wage was $1.65. That was starting pay take it or move on. A good machine room hand could expect around $3.00 an hour. A really fast production worker made $4.50 upholstering, very few could sustain $5.00 an hour.

A set of Pacific Durachrome steel dies were $9.95. The Herter's C press was $17-$18. A Remington 788 was around a $100 and a Ruger 77 was around $160.00. I bought a new S&W K22 Masterpiece in '73, think it was $125, had to save my overtime for that one. Foolishly sold it.

A new RCA color TV was close to $400-$500, more if you wanted a remote.

Start at 5.0 gr of the 700X under the 311041 in the 30-30. Work up to 7.5 gr.

I loaded hundreds of 311041 and 7.0 grs of 700X for my 1960's 30-30 H&R 158 Topper. Had stopped shooting trap and had a 4 pound keg and several of the smaller 8 oz cans. Still have a lot of that powder. At only 7.0 grs per shot, it goes a long way.
