Tooling for screw in choke install in M500

Hey folks. I'm looking for the tooling to ream and thread Mossberg 12 gauge barrels for screw in chokes. I have several to do, so I thought I'd try doing it myself instead of sending them all out. If you have some and are finished with them, lemme know. Thanks!!

It is amazing what will turn up when you ask Google!

    https://4drentals.com/product/12-gau...ke-tap-reamer/

Renting would be far cheaper than buying unless you really want to own the reamer and tap for future projects.

    Another option is:

    https://feeds.brownells.com/userdocs...n-P199-213.pdf

They have a solder on choke tube adapter but you have to get the barrel turned to suit. The adapter is only $20.99 though so pretty inexpensive. Wouldn't work for O/U or side by of course.

If you do ream and tap by hand please post results. I have one of the solder on adapters that I have as yet to use but have been thinking seriously of renting reamer and tap. It is recommended that the reaming and tapping be done in a lathe but with the guide bushings it can be done by hand... not sure if results would be as good though.

Trigger here is a great video of a gunsmith reaming and tapping a shotgun barrel for chokes by hand. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yKtHk_tXuoI

Many fixed choke shotgun barrels have been made so thin that only one of the versions of "thin-wall" chokes will work well when boring out the old choke and threading the barrel. Briley's and Tru-choke versions of thin wall choke taps may be what you want.

    good luck, garrisonjoe
