    Animal identification from scat.

Can anyone identify what kind of animal it is from? I found this pile in my front yard. I think the pills are too small to be from a rabbit, but I could be wrong. I don't have gopher mounds. Soil is sand just under the grass.

It looks like some kind of herbivore, but you'd need to smash one of the pellets to be sure.

Rats, sheep, goats, and deer mostly just drop pellets out as they go along, and not make a pile of them.
I've seen sheep leave a pile like that, but not very often.
We don't have any shortage of possums, raccoons, or skunks, but I've never leave anything like that.
Predators usually leave sort of a log that reminds you of dog poo or tootsie roll segments.

With all the invasive species in Florida,,, that might be a headscratcher.

He smiled. “Men do not learn from history. Each generation believes itself brighter than the last, each believes it can survive the mistakes of the older ones. Each discovers each old thing and they throw up their hands and say ‘See! Look what I have found! Look upon what I know!’ And each believes it is something new.

Petersen's field guide series includes a scat guide (may be out of print, I haven't checked recently).

Google image search says "rabbit". I haven't seen any or any other signs of a rabbit. I live in a subdivision with no wooded or grassy areas nearby, so if it is a rabbit, it is well and truly lost.

A deer or even a small deer would stand out in my neighborhood like a water buffalo.

I searched earlier, but I think the scat is smaller that the pictures that Google shows. It would have to be a young small rabbit. That might explain how it got lost in the neighborhood. I haven't seen any scattered soil like a burrow would have.

I don't have a problem with it being in my front yard, except the scent drives my dogs crazy when going for a walk.

Swamp Rabbit? Definately looks rabbit to me, and the pile also speaks of rabbit IMO.
I truly believe we need to get back to basics.

    Get right with the Lord.
    Get back to the land.
Get back to thinking like our forefathers thought.

May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you
and give you His peace. Let all of the earth – all of His creation – worship and praise His name! Make His
    praise glorious!

Rabbit. Plenty around here in the driveway (gravel), yard, etc. They like to torment the dogs through the fence or windows.
