    Lyman 55 measure replacement cap

This has probably come up a hundred times before, but where can I find a replacement cap for a Lyman 55 powder measure. Doesn't matter if metal or plastic. I checked ebay expecting to see sources for the plastic cap, but nothing came up. I know I can post in the "swappin' and sellin' " section (and will probably be my next move), but with as many of these measures out there and no support from Lyman, I would have thought others would be someone supplying this part.

I used the plastic cap from am Accurate powder bottle. It was a little tight so I used a dremel round sander to open it up a bit for a friction fit. Maybe not as good as the original but it works.

This is my intention if I ever buy a powder measure that is missing its cap, or (horror of horrors) actually lose one myself.

Very simple turning project, it could probably be done with an electric drill and some ingenuity.

Think mine is the 33334 Objective Scope Cover.
I warmed it up then slid it over and let it cool on snug.

The 33940 might be a better fit.

My wife threw away an empty hair spray can. The lid just fit my Lyman 55. I didn't just find this on my own,saw it on another forum. The shipping on a new one is probably more than the cost of the cap.

Go around your house / garage / storage and reloading building , with measure in hand , and check , try on and see if anything whatsoever will fit .
If you find nothing at your place try a buddy ... Next is local hardware store .
Not Big-Box but local Hardware where they have help and can usually find whatever you need .

I'm surprised Lyman doesn't sell a replacement ... how many 55's are out there still being used ... Heck I got two !

What brand of Hair Spray !
Might be better / cheaper to buy hair spray , just for the cap ... Wally Mart sells lots of hair spray .

Do you think it would be okay to bring my Lyman 55 into the hair spray section to try on caps ... brfore I buy a can ... I would like to make sure it fits !

OK this is the coolest idea I have ever seen for a PM Tube Cover. Butler Creek makes Lens Covers for every size Scope Tube known to man. And they are only a few bucks. If you go on their Website there is a chart showing all the sizes they make and you jsut get the one that is closest on the high side and if it is too loose you simply put a strip of Electrical tape around the tube to tighten it up!

One thing about this solution,,, You ain't gonna lose it!

So many great ideas!! My wife is still looking for her missing hairspray cap. She will never find it on the Lyman 55 down in the basement.

The empty hairspray can is long gone. I think it was something from the beautician supply house.

My old Redding has had 1-1/4” pvc pipe and a cap on it for decades now.
It’s too ugly to show here
