    Looking For 45-70 Boolits

Good afternoon. I have been buying the following boolits from Buffalo Arms. Have been very satisfied, however they have not stocked them for some time now. Still on back order. Before I launch into the casting world, can someone out there recommend where I might buy some? If I could get something close to these specs, I would definitely be willing to consider alternatives. Thanks in advance.

    Original TD Rifle:
405 gr, hollow base, .460 dia, 20-1, w/ SPG lube.
60 gr compressed 2F black powder

    Pedersoli Sharps:
    535 gr, flat base, .459 dia, 20-1, w/SPG lube.
60 gr compressed 2F black powder.

Jimmym52 welcome to the forum. I do load a 405 grain but it’s a flat base cast from a Lee mold. I am sure someone will chime in here in a few minutes with some good info.

The 405 sounds like the Spence Wolf design that Lee makes. The 535 sounds like a copy of the Postell. Are you looking to find molds or just buy boolits? It you are just looking to buy I know Western Bullets has the Postell. I don't think they have the 405HB.

I picked up a Lee mold - 405gr Sharpes design (#459-405HB) with a hollow base. I honed out the nose (just under the sprue plate) to give it a .25" dia meplat for loading in 45/70 as these bullets need a flat nose in a tubular magazine. Heavy crimp.
Still came in at 405 grs and I use L2 for the alloy. Hand lube and sized. Accurate and hard hitting.

Thanks to all you for taking time to share information. Several “boolit” providers popped up that I have not yet considered. Also getting interested in casting my own “boolits”. Sounds like a great winter activity. May be back in touch on that subject. Cheers!

Now that I cast, I haven't purchased any cast boolits in a long time but my last purchase was from Red Beard bullets and I was very satisfied. I don't know if they're still around...

I have a couple hundred lee 459-405-HB. I could trade you for some brass. Or sell for 50 dollars. They are 30-1. Lubed and sized . Send PM
