Ogive Wadcutter verus WFN

I'm seeing posts where it seems like the two bullet types are confused. Most likely I'm the one confused.

I thought an Ogive Wadcutter was a wide meplat semi-wadcutter with a small amount of radius at the nose. The nose is less than bore diameter and the bullet is driven by the bands. The usual crimp location is behind the front band.

A WFN has a touch of radius to the nose but the nose behind the radius is bore diameter, and the bullet is driven by the nose and the bands. The usual crimp location is a special grove at the base of the nose.

Have I got it right?

I think what you're calling a Ogive wc, is what Veral Smith used to call a LFN, which tapered from the bore diameter. The WFN is also his term which you have described as he did. If I read Ogive Wad Cutter I picture a WFN bullet.

If I'm reading this right, what you describe is also commonly called a Keith style SWC
as opposed to a full wad cutter, some are more or less the same on both ends and others like the RCBS
have some sort of dimple looking thing on the top end.

If I am understanding correctly, WFN, Ogive Wadcutter has no step between the parallel sided section and the nose where the Keith type bullet has a shoulder between the parallel sided section and the nose. Both have a large Meplat but the WFN often has a larger Meplat. WFN often does not have a crimp groove where Keith types all have a crimp groove but sometimes are not crimped in the groove.

In the mid-70's was an avid rabbit stalker with a Ruger Security Six, hollow base wadcutters and Bullseye.
Super accurate, comparatively little damage, no shot stuck in the meat and no lost wabbits.

I'm not sure I have it right either, but I would define an ogival wadcutter as having the leading corners radiused off. . .much like the .455 Webley MK IV bullet:



The LFN, or Long Flat Nose was Veral Smith's attempt to improve upon Elmer Keith's SWC concept with a slightly larger meplat of about 70% of groove diameter, and an overall length that often nearly reaches the front of the cylinder in revolvers in order to move mass out of the case leaving more room for powder.
