    Briley Choke Inquiry

I have a Remington 1100 LT 20 ga with a 26" barrel/ ImpCyl. I would like to have Briley install their steel shot compatible chokes. on this shotgun. Any members have this done ? I have micked dimensions at the muzzle:OD/0.7035"; ID/0.6065". Briley's policy is to send the barrel in for evaluation. But members may save me that trouble.

    They have to determine if there is enough steel to cut threads for there choke inserts;

I have used Briley a couple of times and they do great work - but they have a system and you have to work within their constraints. I’d send them the barrel for evaluation if you’re serious about the work.

Briley would be my last choice for any shotgun work. I use to shoot with a guy who sent them an Ithica skb auto that had a 30" barrel on it to be fitted for chokes he got back a 26" barrel with a badly done job of it (yes it was the same gun). I sent them a 12 gauge Beretta over under to be fitted for sub gauge tubes in 20 and 28 gauges not knowing of my friends experience and they wrecked it as well. It had chrome lined bores rather than turning the tubes to fit the barrels chamber areas they took a reamer and hogged out the chambers and forcing cones. So much for the chrome they also put in and charged me around 150.00 for "mechcanical triggers" whith the gun already had. To top it off one of the two 28 gauge tubes split half way through the first round of skeet using factory winchester double A's I would trust bubba and his dremel tool before Briley.

Only Briley stuff I have is 28 and 410 Companion tube sets I use for skeet. Both are 15+ years old, bought used. I'm well pleased with the service I've got out of them. Used the 28 gauge this week for 4 lines of skeet. Not a miss could I blame on anything but the guy pulling the trigger. The guys at the club(s) I hang around at have been pleased with the Briley work they have had done. YMMV.

I shot Clays for many years and know a lot of guys who have had Briley work on their guns and install tubes and chokes. I’ve never personally met anyone with a complaint.

Remington barrels tend to have enough meat in them that choke tube installation is no problem. I've had the job done on probably 6 or 8 of them.

Hawkeye you are literally the only person I've ever heard of that wasn't pleased with Briley. In fact the only negative I see with them is that since they are probably one of the top 2 or 3 shotgun specialists their prices reflect that. But you certainly get your money's worth. Just my opinion...

Sorry all but put yourself in my place a nearly 2000.00 shotgun and 600.00 plus for there tubes and work and it was a botched job.
Would you give them a positive review if you were in my shoes.

Did you ask them about a resolution? I am curious about their answer. I have never liked what I have seen of tube installation, by any company, so prefer separate fitted barrels or entire different guns, fitted.

Brileys resolution after a couple of months and finaly getting hold of the head man. I was to allowed to return the tube sets for a refund but as for the damage to the gun,the unnecessary charge for the trigger work and shipping I was out of luck and they acted like they didn't care there offer was take it or leave it.

OP, are you still looking into this ? Reason I'm asking is that I had an older Rem870 20ga done; because of having a very slim OD I had to go with Ahlman's. If you like I can measure the OD of my bbl at the muzzle ?

Kestrel4k. Sorry for the delay in replying to your offer. Yes, if you could give me the O.D. of your muzzle. Thanks

Whoops; I've been offline for a while so missed your reply until now, sorry.
Will be able to measure this weekend; will post when I have the data.

I have had Mike Orlen in Maine do barrel work/choke tubes in about 12-15 guns over the years. He uses Colonial or TruChoke tubes. Never a problem with amazingly quick turn around and very fair pricing.

Finally wrapped up this loose end; 0.704" bbl OD at the muzzle - a good feat for 20ga choke tubes.

Feel free to drop me a line for more info; best regards & Happy Holidays.

Edit: I just re-read your original post - certainly the exact same OD to work with.
