Help with loads for Schmidt rubin 1898

Hi all , I recently acquired a nice Schmidt rubin and am starting to reload for it ,I found video of a chap using 21grns of IMR4227 and a 200 GRN HC lead bullet gas checked at 311 , I tried the load with both full length cases and ones trimmed to 54.5 and 53.5 mm got a face full of hot gas with every shot. Can't seem to find any more data on loads people are using ,lots of comments on using IMr4227 and red dot but no actual data( the only powders I have are IMR4227,GM3 and red dot,) Anyone have a starting point with any of these that will work without me needing a welders mask to shoot!?
    Thanks
    JB

Black with carbon ! And the bolt was thick with it as well!

After the first firing, only neck size so the case is more formed to your chamber and the blow back will be less.

Funny you wrote this, I just got a new 1889 in great shape. I took it to the range and used the NOE 312 299 mold sized to .314. It seemed that the slower powders like IMR 4350 and 4064 gave me the best results with little or no blowback.
