    45-70 ammo in pouch ??

    Any one recognize the era of this pouch & ammo?

    McKeever Box. Era is Spanish American War / Boxer Rebellion / Phillipine Insurrection. Made for both the 30 US and 6 m/m Navy cartridges.

    I have the same pouch with loaded rounds made with what looks like copper (not brass).

    For the heck of it, try cleaning one of the cartridges. Check the headstamp for a date.

    The 45/70 McKeevers were finished black and the 30/40's were russet leather. The swell on the upper right end is for the combination tool. The cartridge you show out of the loops appears to be a late carbine load with the 405 gr bullet more deeply seated than the standard rifle cartridge.
    This is the kind of stuff that gets pitched out all too often when the old man tips over because the kids don't know what they are looking at.
