What caliber to have a 22-250 bored out to?

I am considering having a single shot bored out, most likely JES, what caliber say you? It's a rusted Wickliffe, and I don't need another 22-250 Wickliffe. I've been all over from 358 to 44mag, thinking 18" long also.

JES rebores to .338” minimum I believe.
.358 or .35 Whelen, .35x57mm, .375-06 is where I’d lean if the original barrel is thick enough at the muzzle.
    Wickliffe- drooled over those before…

If for cast I'd look at .338 Federal with an extended neck length for more lube grooves.
.338 and .358 have the same goofy problem, short necks designed for jacketed bullets.

Do I need to keep the same base size, or can JES cut the extractor also?

The 22-250 has a standard rim diameter of .473 same as the 308 based cartridges and 30-06 based cartridges. Without an extractor/ejector change you are home with a standard bolt face cartridge.

Before you posted this, I thought about the 41mag, the base is already too big tho. Looks like a straight wall case has to be at least a 444.
I'm sort of leaning towards a 257 Roberts right now, I load it for my dad already ,but would need to find more brass, which is kind of a daunting task, I was very lucky to have some folks on here help me last time, I'm afraid the well may be dry.

257 Roberts is a great deer cartridge! Although I'm partial to the 7X57 myself!

    I built a 6mm x 22-250 nearly 30 years ago. VZ24 Mauser.
I twisted it 1:12. 85 gr and under.
Shot my best 5 shot group with it: 0.062" @ 100 yds. 70 TNT.
My notes show it shoots 85 Speer 4 shot groups of 3/8" at 100 w/ H414.
It solved my "problem" of wanting something different when I had a case of WW 22-250 brass around (2665 pieces, if I recall correctly).

It is Very close to the 6mm International (again, as I remember).

Well, kind of close. Particularly if you do the Improved, which I did.
Improved is something like 1/10th inch shorter at shoulder.

The unimproved is smaller - there is round about an 8% gain from improving a 22-250 if I remember right, so the 6 International is probably something like 11% smaller in volume than a 243.

For me I would probably go with 358 Win. That’s one caliber I have not owned and seems everyone that does own one loves the caliber. Being you can make the brass from 308 gives it an inexpensive source of brass and 35 cal. is great pistol bullets too big enough for anything.
Seems like a real versatile caliber.

358 or 35 whelen were my first thoughts, but now I'm leaning towards the 250, brass availability with the 22-250 is better than the Roberts I think. Too many options!!

    Cool

The 22-250 has a standard rim diameter of .473 same as the 308 based cartridges and 30-06 based cartridges….
This is slightly misleading. Although the rim is the same size, the case diameter ahead of the groove is smaller than the .308 etc. Why does this matter? It provides a bit of room for a properly-sized reamer to cut the diameter you actually want instead of what the legacy reamer provided.

For my factory-chambered .250 and .22-250 rifles I use reformed .308 brass for a tighter fit of the case in the chamber, more like using a minimum chamber. A minor point, but still…
