    Range finder suggestion

My Buckmaster Nikon rangefinder is pushing 30 years old. Still works but I lost the battery compartment door. Iam thinking about a new one. The biggest requirement is that it work through the mesh windows of a ground blind. Suggestions please.

I'd put a piece of duct tape over the battery compartment, and call it good.

I’ve never seen one that would work through mesh. In fact, none of mine would work through glass. Are you saying your old/broken one works through mesh?

Not through mesh. If I replace it I want one that will work through mesh. If that isn't an option it's duct tape.

That black duct tape from the Gorilla Glue folks is the best.

It'll stick the break of day to the crack of dawn.

Map out your position and get all the range settings at the beginning of your hunt; Then there is no need to try and range find through mesh ?? IMHO

I usually do that but in an open area its not always an option. No rocks or trees.

Put some flags or markers out at known/measured distances. We do that on the fields on our property that we watch during deer season. Don’t need a range finder if you hunt the same spots all the time.

I'm using a crossbow. I like to be sure. If I wanted a tutorial on hunting I would have started a thread on that. I also use the crossbow on turkeys from a ground blind. Take a look at the size of the vitals on a turkey and you will see that 3 or 4 yards can make a big difference.

Sounds to me like you have got it all figured out. Don't think you need us.

You didn’t start out saying you were using a crossbow. No one’s trying to tell you how to hunt, they are just trying to help you out. Let’s just leave it that range finders don’t work through mesh. That’s all you need to know.

I have a Leupold Range Finder that I truly love....long battery life!
When guns are outlawed only criminals and the government will have them and at that time I will see very little difference in either!

Get the duct tape, lasers don't work through obscure objects.
    Whatever!

Print out one of these. I used them for years for BPCR courses. I put them between a couple sheets of plexiglas, make notations with china marking pencils, so I could rub the notes off with a tissue.

The solid soft lead bullet is undoubtably the best and most satisfactory expanding bullet that has ever been designed. It invariably mushrooms perfectly, and never breaks up. With the metal base that is essential for velocities of 2000 f.s. and upwards to protect the naked base, these metal-based soft lead bullets are splendid.

I have a Sig Sauer/Buckmaster, that is small and works from point blank to several hundred yards. I have an extra one I got in promo deal with a scope, and it is simple to use. $100 if you are interested.
