    CD's Or DVD's

    This might sound strange
But I use strips of old CD's and DVD's in plugs
As they reflect light sort of like the fish scales

    What I am asking
Anyone know of some place or company that is still giving out free CD's or DVD's ?
Or a place that makes CD's or DVD's and has scrap junk DVD's ?

While I was still able to work
I would be given a bunch every month from a local supply house
Never knew what was on them , as they cut them in 1/2 before giving them to me

    But my stash is gone
So before I BUY blank CD's
    I figured I would ask

    Thanks
    John

I cut strips out of the CD
I then cut out a area in the side of the plug to take the strip of CD
The CD strip is installed on the plug silver side out
A lot of the time I make a sort of tear drop shaped strip of the CD

I also use a heat gun to soften the CD to bend it to the profile of the plug
When I do this , I will wrap a lot of the sides of the plug in CD

The CD can be colored with a Sharpie and still have a good flash from the CD
As right now I am making some Yellow Perch plugs
So I used Green , Yellow , Black and Orange Sharpies to color the CD
This about matches the colors I am painting the rest of the plug

I then put 1 or 2 layers of Epoxy over everything to seal the plug ( water proof )

    He's making fishing lures.
Spell check doesn't work in Chrome, so if something is spelled wrong, it's just a typo that I missed.

I have done the same (Lures) with CD's My brother once worked for a place that made them and many had wrong color labels and other issues that made them scrap .
I found heating them took away the reflective property and they got dull grey . I hung them on a string or on backer as targets and found they do odd things one hit would make a clean hole another would shatter them . Currently I only use them as wings on things that spin in the wind they last several years before the sun makes them brittle and they break . Most of the ones I have are early production I have noticed some later CD/DVD's that seem to bend better then the first ones .

I would think there would be lots of them at yard sales that a person could buy cheaply. We had lots of them we cleaned out and put in a yard sale - I put a quarter on individual one or 6 for a dollar (music & movie) - A few sold and I ended up giving a hundred or so away. Goodwill , Salvation Army, etc. should also be a cheap source.

Bedbugbilly there are lots out there for sale but cheapest I have seen is 50 cents each DVD's $1 each or more .
I have a large box of good ones that I have all converted to MP3 so I do not use them anymore I have also converted most of my Vinyl to MP3 much of it goes on either thumb drive, SD card, or CD that can hold 200 songs in my truck sound system .

I use them in the garden, scares off deer... I have small 2mw lasers pointed at them so they flash and send off beams of light at night...
