I would agree, I would not really mess around with junk if I had to step outside to use it. Water sprinkler on internal timer I could easily trip on would be fun if it were really kids. But now, you might get shot. If I had to step out, I'd have a gun in hand....hate to saythat, but it'sthe truth.
I'm way out in countryside. Had a little old lady show up from down the road just after we moved in 7 years ago. Was talking to my wife and said to her that there was a kid who walked around with a long gun and not to worry about him, my wife calmly told her that if anyone came down our drive or across her yard with a gun they were liable to get shot. Took her aback a bit, but we've never seen him or anyone else wandering.... which is a good thing in my opinion, let your neighbors know you are a gun nut and will use them.

Would an electric fence be illegal? Probly, every form of hurtful fun is naughty.

The big cans of bear spray will squirt 20 feet and are red paint, so we can identify the bear later.
We sure made a mess at "Bear Safety" training and went home stinking red.
(Be sure you're upwind)(I am so glad the bears are safe.)
Would be a medical emergency, poor kid showing up at the ER, stinking blinded bright red.
You would need a reasonable threat, car theft isn't, but threatening elderly people is a felony.
Just hope the Asst Dist Atty has a sense of humor, the stuff doesn't wash off soon.
"Lookit what that geezer did, $2000 at the ER and my Scarlett is still scarlet"
Bears only need to be sprayed once, and they learn quickly.

Scottsdale I was taught to put a rubber rattlesnake on the dashboard
"The Club" on the steering wheel
and never ever anything in the truck but seats and the snake.
No registration or insurance papers, because that's your address. You obviously aren't home.
Glove box open, empty. They will bust a window for anything, so leave nothing.
Nobody cares if your alarm goes off. Nobody.
Sounds silly, but I was parked overnight every night in a car thief park.
The fancy truck next to mine had a big realistic rattler coiled up on the passenger seat.
Cars were stolen, broken into, but not ours.
If they were smart, they wouldn't be car thieves.

The last time my rig was broken into was Helena Montana
when I was moving from No.Pole AK to Tucson AZ.
Never had any problem in Scottsdale.

I know they are some local kids because they were wearing the local high school hoodie. The problem is slap on the wrist and do it again next week mentality. But I figure some childish low tier prankster type fun could be had.

fyi in some jurisdictions air soft, + air guns are treated as firearms - + grenades as restricted fireworks -

Years ago; a friends dad was an electrical engineer, wired a doorbell or phone transformer and battery to the car door, wet the ground real good, when the fool tried to open the door, it received a little suspires, didn't take long for the word to get around that the cars were wired ?? End of problem ... I wonder if a fence charger would do the same thing without hurting the electronics in the car / truck ??? When they were stealing gas from my truck, I had saddle tanks, so I filled the main tank with water and left about 1 Gallion of gas in the tank for the smell and taste, OH YA; the stole about 5 gallions of water, don't know how far they got ?? they never came back ??

Banishing a realistic "toy" firearm is normally considered the same as a real firearm in the eyes of the law. Lots on people have gotten shot for doing that. You point a realistic "fake" firearm at me you may get shot with my very real firearm and the law will normally side with me.

We had the end of the driveway used as a toilet by the local drunk/druggies. I had enough of it smelling like a toilet when I went to the mailbox. Very large pecan tree had some branches over the end of the drive. I stationed myself behind another tree farther down the drive (about 40 yards) amongst some bushes. When the car pulled in the drive and the first car door opened. I yelled "GET THE HECK OUT OF HERE". When I heard the beginning of the F word I cut loose with 3 shots from the Benelli into the tree branch over the car. The response was immediate. Quick reverse back and squalling tires down the road. Never was there a return of the scum and no visit from LE. Neighbors never complained nor reported the incident but felt safe in their homes. Still policed my hulls and wads. Just in case.

To be specific these toys for air soft matches are what I was talking about

    https://youtu.be/B7eH8D7h1S4?si=hJxKE8bcCtQmwrXN

Kids/teenagers/ adults use them in games all the time.

Something to quickly chuck out my second story bedroom window when the foolish kids wake me. I was thinking it would be a silly little non-lethal deterrent. As every time I confront them they run away anyway.

And yes, I was armed at the time just incase. But I’m not going to shoot a rifle/handgun for a warning shot in the city I live in. As that would be just as dangerous physically to bystanders as it would be legally dangerous to me.

I think maybe setting up an OC/water/liquidAss something that goes off if they ever manage to open the door- or I can set off remotely might be a simpler prank now

MrWolf Yes I was 30 years old when I chased down the gas thief that would be 36 years ago now and in a completely different area of Michigan . Also punks were known to be armed at that time I had my .44 bulldog with me just in case .

Some of you suggest bear spray last time I read though Michigan laws it was a felony to use against a person we have a goofy state as another said if I did move I would not miss our bad laws one bit!

A couple years ago I was out in the front yard after a skunk at night, a car with people that were drinking pulled in the driveway they where terribly upset at the double barrel I was holding . They wanted to know why I was out with a shotgun I told them vermin of all sizes and they left quickly I never saw them again . I also talked to the local deputy about them said they seamed to be up to more then just driving around drinking he said he would keep an eye out but I never heard anymore or seen them again. Because they backed out I did not see a license plate to get the number if they would have pulled in a couple more feet a trail camera would have got the license plate .

Above snowmobiles where mentioned five miles from here in the early 70's my grandfather had trouble with drunks on snowmobiles one November . We had more snow then he told us how they circled the cabin throwing bottles at the cabin. After he passed I was at the cabin when a old retired deputy stopped by he told us the rest of the story grandpa had used his M1 carbine to shoot up the cowls of the snow machines , The deputy said I could tell the old man knew how to shoot and give proper lead or he would have hit the drivers . The group called the police and had their snowmobiles impounded and were arrested today you can bet the same department would get my grandfather instead! Something else back then they have more deputies on duty then today now they have a hard time getting two on the road at once!
When I think back on all the **** I learned in high school it's a wonder I can think at all ! And then my lack of education hasn't hurt me none I can read the writing on the wall.

akajun - the "moral" of the story should be - get rid of left wing DAs that don't want to enforce the law - do away with no-bail / no jail and get rid of the left wing socialists that wanted to defund the police and prevent them from doing their job. Get back to "you do the crime, you do the time" and teach these youngsters that they are responsible for their actions. For those that keep voting in the left wing "you poor boy/girl - it's not your fault you are a victim of our society" bunch of idiots - you reap what you sow. Stealing cars . . . walking in and stealing a business owner's merchandise . . . . during and looting in the name of "social reform" . . . . you are no the victims . . the hard working people paying taxes and trying to make a living and who follow the law are the "victims".

"kids" trying to boost cars . . . . just youngsters trying to have some fun? What happens when they steal a car and hit someone or smash it up? What happens to the owner who needs that car to go to work? to get to the Doctor? to take their kids to school? If the kids are caught, their parents should be held responsible as well.

A number of years ago, I had a cousiin who worked at a drug store. They built a new store and the first week it was open, she was working the front counter. A "kid" came in, walked up to the outer and tole her to open the register and give him all the money. She refused. He jumped the counter,, stabbed her to death and ran out. He went to a nearby park where his girlfriend cut his hair to change his appearance. They nabbed him in two days and he cried like a baby that he was a minor and "didn't mean to hurt her. Sorry, but if a kid that is a young teenager is out trying to boost cars . . . it's downhill from there.

Remember that when you vote. And remember . . . at one time, they use to hang horse thieves. But we've "progress" from those days . . . . . or have we?

I'm certainly not for shooting anybody - kid or adult - if they are outside of an unoccupied care trying to steal it. But if I am in the car, or my wife is in the car and they pull the door open and threaten either of us or show a knife or a gun . . . that's going to be a story with a different ending.

I'd vote for a hose full of some type of dye that is difficult to get off. If you can get close, hose the down and then let them explain it to their parents . . if they even care. Call the police and they can be on the lookout for kids that look like a big dyed Easter egg.

Just posted this security system in another thread.
When the alarm is activated, you can talk to the people who activated it via your phone.
A voice from "above" should cause confusion and puddin' pants as they run away.
That and you will have a security system for other stuff.

    ""I have this System.
It's wireless, no cloud storage or fees, Vids stored on base unit, and lots of other features.
2 outdoor cameras $199 -$50 (if you have prime... $149)

Size/Prime a few cases when starting off with a progressive and put them aside. You can plug them back into the process when a bad/odd case screws up in the priming station and continue loading.

BEDBUGBILLY a few people have said there is no death penalty for stealing cars but back in the 1990's they did make armed carjacking a federal death penalty case . I wonder if it has ever been used ? Shortly after it passed a family in Lapeer county Michigan lost a daughter to a felon with a gun that carjacked her kidnaped and murdered her dumping her body in a river . The county and state refused to bump the case to federal court to go for the death penalty I wonder if the criminal is still in prison today?

Back in the early 80’s we had the bad kid in the neighborhood breaking into garages, including ours. Next night I sat up with .410 loaded up with rocksalt. When he came out he accidentally got a salted a$$. In the morning waiting for the school bus he kept rubbing his rear. Told him next time wouldn’t be salt. No more problem.

Windshield washer pump, a sprayer above each door. Load the sprayer tank with skunk piss mixed with pink dye... can either have a remote sensor set it off or use a hand held remote to get them when they are facing the car with the nozzle in their face...

Had an uncle that owned a restaurant in Western NY state. He plowed snow for several large stores as a side job. He always kept a 5 gal can of gas in the truck bed. It started to disappear so he filled it and added 5 pounds of sugar to it. Next day it was empty again. A couple days later one of his customers came in saying someone had ruined the engine on his new Cadillac with sugar in the gas. Turns out his teen son was joy riding at night and filling the car up on the way home.

I remembered this when we lived in CA, the wife was an Air Force Officer. Had a new lawn trimmer stolen from in front of the house. So I left a new gas can full of sugar/gas out. It was gone in short order.

While in Seattle in the Marines we had a second story apartment. There was a school and ball fields behind us. A truck with a camper would park behind the building almost every Friday night. The couple would be drunk and argue loudly all night. It got to be a pain. So one warm night with the windows open they were at it hard. I dropped an M80 onto the roof. Their roof vent was open on top of the camper. It bounced into the vent. We heard "What the hell is that?". Then it went off and blew the vent completely off. They never came back.

Fiberoptik I had forgotten about my fathers story about the same time in the 1980's he was having trouble with theft from the garage and caught two people at the muzzle of a 12 gauge riot gun . One was an adult who never returned the other was a local kid who called the police on my father . Thankfully county rather then local police responded and they did a reeducation number on the kid scaring him with a day in regular adult jail with hard core criminals waiting for trial .

I have always been confused by sugar in the gas tank claims it should not damage the engine but it will clog fuel lines, passages, and filters . I have heard the old purple moth balls dissolved in gas will kill an engine over heating combustion chamber to the point of causing rings to seize.

I found out it is illegal here in Michigan but I once dried Habanero peppers with Potassium nitrate mixed in while they got blended in a blender . The dried result was powdered then mixed with black powder one volume of each. It worked great in my old garage even kept feral cats out when I tested it . I have since grown and dried ghost peppers but they are used in burrows under the pole barns so the animals do not re-dig the burrow after I fill the entrance in .

If your airsoft grenade results in one of the kids sustaining an eye injury, their parents will sue you into the ground.

I really doubt you're gonna scare them away with any of the ideas presented here. And if you screw with them, don't be surprised if they screw back twice as hard...Kids doing this kind of stuff can be very malicious Oh, and since they're underage, nothing will ever happen to them legally.
