I remember when the Glenfield/Marlin Model 60 hit the 6 million mark back in the early 80s and GUNS & AMMO did an entire issue about how it was "the most successfully sold American firearm in history". Then back around 2009 or so, I recall someone at one of the gun magazines took note that the 10/22 had finally surpassed that sale figure and replaced the old Model 60 in the top slot.
I'm guessing, however, that they must have only been counting specimens made by the actual original companies which designed them. Because with all the 1911 and AR-15 clones out there made by dozens of other manufacturers, the data would have to be different if those were also tallied.

It's a statistic that makes me quite cheerful: thanks to the efforts of Bubba and BarriO, there are now probably five times more AR-15's in private hands than Garands that were needed to wipe out the Axis powers. Figure the 10/22 is an ideal companion piece.

I wonder if Ruger's lawyers just do not want to easily give democraps more ammo against them ?
It would be a easy matter for lawmakers to look up how many have been made each one has been taxed and documented .

A suppressed version of the Ruger 10-22 was used by the Israeli Defense Forces. From what I've heard, when someone was inciting a mob, looting, causing vandalism, or instigating some bad behavior, these silenced 10-22's where used to shoot the troublemaker in the leg. The thought here was that force needed to be applied, but this way it could be non-lethal.

That gun was removed from Israeli service because so many of the Israeli shooters were actually being lethal with them.
My 10/22 is celebrated it's 50th birthday in May. Pops gave it to me for my 14th birthday. It still looks and shoots good. I replaced all the springs in it a few months ago just to freshen it up. I think I'll keep it for another 50 years.

Has anyone made the observation that since Ruger bought Marlin, they now own the Marlin 60 and 10/22. I think it's highly unlikely that Ruger ever reintroduces the Model 60 since it would only compete with their own 10/22. Marlin lever guns bring Ruger a new market segment, but not the semi auto rimfire rifle.
A ballpark estimate would be a million or so...

Size/Prime a few cases when starting off with a progressive and put them aside. You can plug them back into the process when a bad/odd case screws up in the priming station and continue loading.
Boy, my Ruger has a few out the barrel but nowhere near what my Win 190 had and my trusty Single Six has both beat

Read somewhere, long, long ago that suppressed 10-22's were used in Vietnam. Fellow would wait at a river crossing and when the VC would start to cross, he would just pick them off, and they thought some evil spirit was around and they would leave and go cross somewhere else (where the suppressed 10-22 would be waiting for them).
The Marlin site lists the Model 60 as "currently not in production" which I interpret as "We will make it again someday."
Remember: Ammo will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no ammo.
This is not an argument, but my thoughts. Why would Ruger not make the Model 60? I wouldn't view it as competition for the 10/22. I'd think of it as an additional sale. Can't have too many 22's. Add a Model 60 to go with your 10/22. Don't like the 10/22? We'll sell you a Model 60. Don't like Ruger? We'll sell you a Marlin.
I'm guessing when/if Ruger catches up with demand, we'll see the 60 showing up in the stores.
