    Hot weather hogs

We are in a drought and when that happens the feral hogs concentrate on the river for the fresh water.
This morning I floated the river in my kayak starting farther west than my normal drop off.
A beautiful morning and lots of wildlife to watch and see.
Due to the thick weeds on the sandbars, the hogs and I couldn’t see each other until close.
As a matter of fact, I shot two hogs as they lay sleeping!
In my four hour trip, I managed to kill 5 hogs using my Maverick 88 20 gauge with Academy/Monarch #1 buckshot. The longest shot was 30 feet.
And no, I didn’t risk a cardiac event messing with them. The buzzards and catfish have to eat, too.

2 litters a year and 6-12 per litter. Nothing to eat them but gators and cats

Good for you! My son has been killing them on the Rio Concho near San Angelo. It’s too hot to clean one - the carcass starts to stink within minutes.

My late uncle had a nice place on the Concho near Christoval. Nice by the river down there.
The hogs are varmints in the truest sense of the word. I don’t eat them, but I don’t care if anyone else does- it ain’t my buisiness

We had a bad infestation of wild hogs back about 20 years ago. It's unreal how fast they can multiply, and the damage they can do, especially to a corn field. One farmer lost 180 acres to wild hogs in 2 weeks. I don't care to eat them either. I don't enjoy killing, except snakes. But some things have to be dealt with and shooting them is the only efficient means. And, there is no season on them. Feral hogs are fair game year round in Oklahoma.

I'm hoping to kill an eater under 100 pounds one of these days, but not until the weather cools considerably.

In FL they can get up to 3 litters a year and the female breads at 6 months. Very bad vermin to get started in your area.

My gate contractor just came by to finish replacing our electronic gate system after a lightning strike. He showing me pictures from his Flier scope, then showed me a last week picture of a 600 pound boar on a tractor's front end loader that he shot on the FL border near Geneva AL.

They are very bad here in FL, the temps and food supply is perfect for them to spread everywhere. I shoot them on sight, day or night, or if they run off, or hunt them down, when I see sign, they are way too destructive to be left alive anywhere near a farm.

IIRC, Texas just made shooting from navigable waters illegal. Was supposed to be big rivers but changes to all.
    Whatever!

Looks like he's ok legally. Doesn't apply to the discharge of a shotgun if using shot.

I love those adz clowns, they have a very, very serious problem with a very destructive animal, and want to protect them in certain areas. I get the safety issue, but just how much different is a pasture from a river. So when real stupid occurs, look to DC.

This sounds awfully like the work of US Corp of Engineers and their buddies.
